sleeping plenty but still yawning

I am a fit and healthy person and sleep about 8 hrs a day and am very active and sporty. The problem is when I get into college classes and more importantly some office meetings, I begin to yawn and I hate it. It doesn't mean that I hate the classes or meetings - thats not the case.

Why do I yawn or any person for that matter? How can I control it? Is there any medicine for it? I would really appreciate your replies/suggestions/solutions.

Thank you,

Some suggestions:

yawning can be caused by too much as well as too little sleep by seeing someone else yawn or in your case perhaps by a now inbuilt expectation that you will yawn!! So trying cbt (cognitive behaviour therapy).

Yawning is sometimes the body's way of expelling excess carbon dioxide so you can take in a big breath of fresh air.

Are your classrooms well ventilated? Sometimes if you are concentrating hard during the meeting or in class your breathing may become shallow and therefore not getting enough fresh air to your lungs, so a big yawn is just your body's way of getting the oxygen it needs.
