Q: Being a Single Mother...

Well I am going to be a single mother. Right now I don't make that much money, but is there anything that I can do to get financial help with the baby. Also, would you guys recommend taking the father to court for child support or waiting to see if he'll actually help out then if he doesn't take him to court? Should I give the child his last name even though we aren't married and probably never will be? I need some advice please...

Hey
Well first of all. Welcome to the forum. I havent' seen you around. Are you new? You can get wic and such to help buy the baby's formula and such once he/she is born. You can get on walfare or see about getting on welfare possibly. I don't know your story so I don't know how much I can help ya. As for the father.... What is his story? Does he have anything to do with the pregnancy at all? Does he claim to want to be involved in the babies life? Gimme more of your story and i'll see if I can help.....

I don't post much....But I am 15 weeks pregnant. The father originally wanted me to have an abortion and there was no way that I was going to do that. We had a wonderful relationship up until this point. He pulled jeckyl/hyde theme on me. He hurt me really bad about not accepting the baby. Now he says that he wants to but he's not sure if he wants to be with me cause I decided against his will to keep the baby. So. I'm 24 and he's 27. He's an adult acting like a 12 year old. We are working on our relationship but it's very unhealthy right now. I haven't seen him in a month. So I really don't feel important to him at all. We've been together over a year...And I would've never imagined him acting like this. So I want to raise my child without needing him...Or feeling like i'm trapped to him. I am willing to do anything to help my child. I'm in training with my job and I will start making really good money after I finish but it's up until that point. And I probably won't be where I want to be until after the child is born in feb.

Can you get help with daycare? Can I get on wic now? Is medicaid free for the baby? I don't really know much about this and the woman that I called for info didn't really help. Thanks! Smile

You can go to planned parenthood and they may give you some baby things. Wic and medicaid are great programs too! Theyre also programs to help people afford rent ( if youre living on your own ). Hope I helped! Good luck!

Ok first where do you work?

Heres my advice. Get on wic now. You can get things like milk, eggs, cheese, and cereal. Second you should not give this baby the fathers last name. It deserves yours not his. He doesnt want the baby remember? You dont need a guy like that. Second do you live at home? Do you have insurance? If not get on medicaid. See if you can apply for food stamps. There are programs for daycare and rent. When you have the baby start the paperwork for childsupprt. Once you have the baby you can put the baby on medicaid too. Where are you from? You should call planned parenthood and im sure they can help. Your wic office can help too.

i'm in training at an upscale hair salon. I would not need assisstance for a very long time becuase I will be financially stable but it's in the meantime that I will need help with. I have insurance for myself but it's going to be too expensive to add my child onto it at first. The father doesnt have a job so i'm afraid that I will not be able to get child support...Which is concerning me right now. I still live at home because I did the whole college thing and then went to a technical school after....I'm almost on my feet....But it won't happen until after I have my child in feb. I live in nc.

I'm very curious about the support for childcare and rent....Where would I find out information about that? Thank you

You can either ask the wic office or your local aide. Im not sure where you live or what it would be called. Im sure the same place you get your food stamps and everything can help you. If you tried to take the guy to court to get child support the judge makes him get a job and if not it gets worse like jail time or something. Have you told anyone else your pregnant?

Where you live they might have hud. It is where you can find a place to live and they will help pay for a portion of it, or maybe even all of it. There is a waiting list sometimes but if you call the division of family services they can give you more info on the hud and some apartments offer a rent assistence, and have a shorter waiting list. They can even help you get a home. And you might be able to get energy assitance where they help you with your electric bill. They will also help pay for daycare when you are working and if you are not working the will give you some assistane to help pay for things. This is normally only for 5 years that you can be on it. I would just sugest to call your local dfs (division of family services) and ask some info. Good luck
