Hello! I am not a mother, but I have cared for ten beautiful little ones for two years now. I am a proffesional infant teacher in one of the best nursuries in the country! (well, I was, but I had to quit because I am moving Crying or Very sad )

i want to tell the world that white ointments such as desatin completely suck! Sorry for the graphic language, but that is my honest to goodness opinion of the stuff. It smells bad (the smell makes me sneeze like crazy) and it doesn't get rid of rashes, and it doesn't prevent rashes.... The best ointment in the world is a & d ointment! It gets rid of rashes, and keeps them away! All of the babies in my nursury are now using a & d with every diaper, because I preached about it to my mothers, and none of them- even the ones who used to get rashes really bad- get rashes. If there is a persistent rash, I recommend pinxav. I like that just about as much as a & d, but it is more expensive, smells bad, and makes all their diapers pink (eww) but it is amazing at getting rid of raw diaper rash. Another ointment that prevents rash (but will not get rid of existing rash) is vaseline with every diaper. It keeps the moisture off the skin.

Also, I want to say *never never never* use baby powder! It can get into baby's lungs and cause severe lung disease- using baby powder is about the same as putting your baby in an asbestos-lined crib!

What's a&d is it a brand or is it the vitamins a and d? Also, why haven't they taken baby powder off the market if it's so bad for kids? Just curious, I love the smell of the baby powder and it sucks that it's not good for them.

The commonest over here in uk is sudocrem - zinc and castor oil.
However I do know people who have successfully used udder cream (designed for using on cows udders - but it works a treat - just make sure you get a brand new pot for baby Wink ) and also green oils gel - sold in tack shops for horses to put on everyhting from minor wounds to their leg hanging off - again remember to buy a brand new pot for baby Wink

The diaper rash cream that I absolutely love is by arbonne. My mom bought it for my son when he was born and it gets rid of the rash fast. Its herbal (it does have zinc oxide in it) and it has no mineral oils in it which I like.

I agree a & d ointment is a godsend. Regular zinc oxide ointment works wonders, as well. Calendula ointment is also a good antibacterial/skin healer. For anyone who's familiar with burt's bees products, they have a new line of baby care products, including a diaper rash ointment. I wish that stuff had been around when my son was a baby.

i agree 100%. Butt paste is awesome. I have used every kind of diaper rash cream and nothing seemed to work and one day I was at target and saw this new product, it does cost more than the rest, but it is well worth it. If baby is a little red the next morning it is gone. Oh and all three of my kids have eczema and very dry skin it is great for that also. And try it on very chapped lips. This stuff is a miracle cream.

My daughter was on prescription butt creams to help with rash, I have tried, peneten, sudocreme, aveeno and zudafex something like that and nothing worked better than vaseline......I love vaseline. I still have my aveeno and two big cans of peneten but I live by vaseline as it kicks butt, you would have thought that because of price it doesnt work that well I was proved wrong.

I tried numerous things as elisa butt was blistering and bleeding, I changed brands of diapers, wiped with water, changed different brands of wipes and nothing worked so im a firm believer of vaseline............

I just noticed tonight that nathan has a huge sore looking rash on his little bum. The funny thing is..It wasn't there for the diaper change before that, which was probably only 2-3 hours earlier...

What the heck?.. I use desitine but I have been using it... I have been wanting to try new stuff, I don't think they sell the butt paste in canada...

vaseline is a wonderful thing to use I use it too with my girls, but the rash i'm talking about is, is the one that takes a few days to improve itelf and butt paste is a mircle cream. It takes care of it in 24 hours.... Gone ....

i have also found that the brand a&d ointment is top notch! We were give a tube of walmart brand "equate a&d" and our baby was getting a red ring around his hiney and after I stopped using it and went totally with brand or cvs generic a&d, everything was perfect.

To save money, we are now buying the 16oz. Tub of a&d for $10.99 and saving the 4oz. Tubes for our diaper bags.

I have several types of diaper ointment/cream and the white colored zinc oxide pastes are too much trouble to use. I hate putting that white stuff all over him because it takes so many wipes to clean him up poperly before I can apply fresh stuff.

A&d does it for me!
