Q: Just Went Off the Pill - Is It Possible I'm Pregnant?

This is the first time i've ever posted on this board, so i'm a little new to this topic....

I took my very last pill on 7/10...Started my period on 7/13 as usual...My period ended on 7/18. I did not start another pack b/c my husband and I wanted to start trying in a few months. I wanted to be off of the pill for a while prior to trying since i've been on the pill for almost 12 years . We've been using the pull-out method.....

I should have started (if i'm still on the same schedule) on 8/10....Did not start. I figured, no big deal...That's pretty common. The only thing is that i've noticed some weird things....

On 8/7 (prior to when I should have started) I had an exteme case of nausea....Which is unusal for me. I seriously thought I was going to vomit. Ever since then, it's almost felt like my stomach is constantly grumbling and feels empty & kind of queezy....These feelings are mostly during the day. I've had some cramps & actually thought I was going to start my period, but never did. I have also been extremely thirsty. My breasts are not tender though at all....But i've been pretty tired. I did have some spotting the week prior to when I should have started my period, so I thought that I was going to start, but never did.

Is it at all possible that I could be pregnant that soon after stopping the pill??? Or are these more like symptoms from stopping them?? Also, is it too soon for me to take a pregnancy test? I'd rather just take one to be sure, but I don't want to waste the money if it is too early???

Again~i'm very new to all of this...So sorry if I sound stupid!!!

Your advice would be greatly appreciated! Smile

Pregnancy symptoms are very very common for those just starting, stopping, or switching birth control methods. Don't worry!

The pull out method *is not* a method it is a risk.
It is possible that you could be pregnant, you will need to do a test or see your doctor for a blood test.
It is advisable in the 3months before conceiving to take pre-natal vitamins and folic acid - or at least start as soon as you find out you are pregnant.
Some women get a light spotting when the foetus implants into the uterine wall. I did right when I should have got my period - even told himself that I had got it - oops!

I realize that it is not a method, or a form of bc....However, it is being used with my husband. I was mainly trying to give a little background on the subject. I've been on prenatals for about 6 months...I just thought it was strange that I was experiencing such weird feelings & with not getting my period...I was a little curious.

Anyway, I took a test & i'm not pregnant!!

Thanks for your replies ladies!

If you got a negative but still feel like you may be pregnant, then do another test in a few days. A negative can be wrong - maybe not enough hormone present, or test not sensitive enough, but a posititve is rarely wrong when done correctly.
Not to worry you but just keep an eye on things Wink

Thanks for your advice, kia_breizzze! I will more than likely take another test in a couple of days if i'm still feeling this way. My husband and I would be happy if I were pregnant, just a little surprised at how soon it happened. So, either way, pregnant or not, we'd be happy. In a way, I was slightly bummed out at the negative result of the test. I guess I just had it in my head that I was pregnant, ya know? I will still take a test though, if i'm still feeling this way....I'll keep ya posted.

Thanks again Wink
