My girlfriend is about one month pregnant. This morning she is in a lot of pain (abdomen and back) with some spotting. She say's that she feels like her body wants to push something out. After reading your column we think she is haveing a miscarraige. The problem is that she is suppose to fly back to europe (where she's from) tonight. Will she be o.K. On a 12 - 14 hour flight? I want her to postpone for a week but she says she'll be alright. Can you give me some guidance with this...

What I Know...
From what I understand, at this point in the ball game there is absolutely nothing you can do to stop a miscarriage. Many doctors will advise bedrest, but it is not proven, it is more or less there way to be sympathetic to the mother. I do advise you to take her to the doctor asap though. Then he can diagnose the problem. He may not be able to stop or change anything, but whether she gets on the plane or not will not effect the outcome.
