I have just found out that I have a ganglion cyst on my foot. The doctor wants to do surgery in 3 weeks. He did not take any x-rays on the foot. Is that normal to schedule surgery without trying to do x-rays or draw fluid out.

My husband has had several ganglions oin both wrists & never any x-rays - some drs have drained others have just operated - I think it depended on size & hardness & probably on the particuar drs preferences for which is more effective.
