Hemorrhoid Relief.....
Posted: 07-31-04 11:06am

I've had three marble sized external hemorrhoids for about 3 months now, and about two very small ones. I believe them to be thrombosed, but i'm not really sure what that means. I haven't had any bleeding, I would describe it as uncomfortable at times, but I wouldn't say they hurt. I've tried a long list of over the counter creams, and suppositories including---prep h, prep h cooling gel, prep h suppositories, anusol. I finally broke down and went to the doctor about three weeks ago, which is out of character for me, espically for such a embarrassing problem. Doc takes a quick look at them and wrote me a prescription for anusol hc cream and suppositores. I've been using them religiously with no signs of improvement. I've had a couple hemorrhoids before, but they lasted a week or two and went away. I dont feel after three months and everything i've tried that there going to just go away by there self or with creams. I've researched alittle on the net about treatment options. I am no expert, but I believe that rubber band ligation would be a ideal treatment for me. I am curious if this is something that I could do myself. Procedure seems simple enough (put a rubberband around the base of it tight enough to cut of blood circulation) I believe i'm capable of doing that, unless there something I dont know about. I dont have health insurance, my only treatment option would be to sit at the charity hospital for about 12 hours to be seen, and more than likely be given another cream. I can't be given another cream, I need this problem resolved. I am also curious as to what rubber band treatment or any other treatment would cost to someone paying cash. I can't afford to spend more than $500 or so. This is breaking me down mentally and physically. I have not been able to do a favorite past time which is bike riding. I have also refrained from exercise because i'm afraid the extra straining would just irritate it farther. Thanks for any response..

About 85% of the population suffer from hemorroids at some point in their life, so your doctor will have seen a large number of cases on a day to day basis.

It is unlikely that external medication will resolve your problem and you run the risk of one of external hemeroids rupturing.

I think you are on the right track as regards rubber band ligation, but remember it is only intended to treat internal hemorroids and requires a special applicator to correctly place the band.

A gastroenterologist is the best person to explore treatment options with, rather than a gp/md.

In the meantime:

1. Stick with the external medication
2. Maintain a diet of soft easily digested foods
3. Keep the rectal area clean and dry
4. If possible wash rather than wipe after bowel motions

Thanks alot for the info. I'll look into my area's local gastroenterologist. I apreciate it, you already told me more info than my doctor did, and I paid him.

Damn, no luck on the gastroenterologist. I called 3 of the 5 in lafayette la (about a hour from where I am) that is the closest I could find a single one. Two of them said they dont treat hemorrhoids, one of them reacted with a long pause when I asked, as if it was a joke or something. The other place said they would look at them, but if they needed to be removed they didn't do that. So, I got discouraged and went back to work.

Seems my problem is getting worse too. Last night I had some bleeding for the first time. :/

Flippen, I feel you pain!! I had gotten to your state of mind about my hemmorids..I took a deep breath and went to the doctor.. (a surgern) and had them removed..But let me tell you. Even though they are gone you still have the swelling in that area. And you are more senseteive in that area.. It's a painful recovery, but I will do it again to get rid of them... Good luck!!

So today I decided to go to another doctor a friend recommended. The doctor looked at them, and quickly responded with " that's not hemorrhoids, that's pulips." this would explain why none of the medicine has worked. The only pulips i'm familure with is the ones related to being screened for colon cancer. I asked her if I could be at risk or anything, and she said no. That I have genitile warts. Naturally this leaves me with more questions than answers. I've been in a very long term relationship with my girlfriend, I have been faithful to her, and I have no reason to believe she has not been faithful to me. Neither her or myself has ever had any warts on are genitiles, except around her eighth month of pregnancy she noticed two small "warts" beside her vagina. She asked her doctor about them, and he said she had genitile warts. It is common to see them appear in later stages of pregnancy when the mothers immune system isn't it's strongest. He said chances are they will go away after the baby is born, and we may never see them again. Sure enough, our daughter was born, they went away, and she has had no farther problems since then (about 5 months). So she gave me genitile warts, I understand that much, but how on earth did I get it on my anus? I have never engaged in anal sex, or anything anal with my girlfriend, or anybody else for that matter. My doctor was asking me a few questions about my sexual practice today. I answered her truthfully, but I dont think she really believed me (how embaressing). I understand they or super contagous. I guess I scratch my butt as much as the next guy, but could that of spread something like this that easy, and if possible should I take extra precaution on not passing this to my daughter when changing diaper, or basic handling of her? Anyhow, I apreciate it if some one could shed some light on how this might of happened.

Warts

Warts are the most common std
chances are your girlfriend has had them for years only they did not "grow" until the pregnancy
she could have gotten them from any previous sexual partner and not known until much later...As could you
as for how they got to your rectal area, usually anal sex is the way they spread, if you haven't been the "receiver" of anal, then maybe from a "rim job" is the best bet, or maybe your skin got exposed to your girlfrind's vagina. It is also possible for baby's to catch warts from the mother's birth canal, but usually they have them in the throat area..
So those are my best guesses
almost every woman who is not a virgin gets exposed to genital warts, so it does not mean your girlfriend is slutting around or anything

the warts can "hide" in the vaginal tissue, though, even if there are no "polyps" visible on the outside, and put the female at risk for cervical cancer, so your girlfriend should get regular pap smears to check for that

also, if you want them to go away, your doctor or a skin specialist can "burn" them off with a chemical--it hurts like a health forum, tho', I won't lie to you, I had it done...

Burning them off does not "cure" them, though, they can come back

there is a potential "cure" with interferon therapy--you can find out more about it on other websites probably, like web md. I had it done and it was so worth it--mine are gone and never came back. You are given shots of interferon to stimulate your immune system to attack and kill off the virus that causes the warts. You feel kind of sick, like the flu for the two or three days after the injections-which are once a month by the way--
for about 6 months. I don't know the success rate--but it worked for me.

Hope this helps
