The "superpower" you speak of is definately not unheard of. I've been married for 6 years and have on more occasions than i'll ever be able to count done the very same thing. I "learned" it actually from a cousin of mine several years before even my first sexual encounter. He told me then that he could do it, that he believed all men could, if they concentrate more on being able to "hold on" rather than merely focusing on the male orgasm itself, which is what obviously most men do.
