Hi everyone,

I am 32yrs. And I have been epileptic for 17yrs. Now.My first med. Was tegretol, after 10yrs. My meds. Was changed to dilantin, but I still had problems.I was taken off tegretol and put on dilantin and phenobarbital, and still had problems.

Then my doc.Tried me on lamictal ,everything got worse. Now am on dilantin 400mg,keppra 1000mg,phenobarbital 60mg and folic acid 4mg a day.

I need a miracle because I am still having seizures.I will be happy with at least one seizure a month.

Any suggestion will be helpful and appreciated.

Thanks :p

I can definitely identify. You name a med, i've tried it. If you can't find one that works for you, maybe you should consider the vagus nerve stimulator or even a resection (craniotomy). Of course, these aren't options for everyone. What type of seizures do you have? Have they been localized? Another medication that I think might be worth a try is depakote (valproate). That one has probably worked best for me. Good luck. Smile

Epilepsy Drugs
I really understand!!! Did your doc ever offer you keppra? I am a woman and interact with everything. My doc put me on this newer drug, and my brain cleared, and I finally think my seizures are under control!
He told me it would start working fast, and I could tell in less than a month. I'm scared I might need another drug soon, but for now, I feel great. Ifelt horrible on trileptal, and lamictal. I couldn't remember things, and I was very depressed. See it you can try it - we will pray for you, cb

Tired And Tried All the Medications
Firstly, I would advisethat you ask your nuerologist to check your blood levels for the medicatiions you are taking as they may be inadequate which may the reason why your seizures havent reduced.
I am on 400mg dilantin per day and 1200mg tegretol per day and these two are my main stabilizers aded to this I also take 2400mg neurontin per day . I have tried just about every anti convulsant available in australia and have never found a combination that gives me 100% control and I have had epilepsy for 43 yrs with a 7 year break when I was 7yrs old.
There are a number of drugs out there that have some bad side affects but not everybody is affected by the same tablet.
Good luck in your pursuit to find that magic drug, that will cure you with minimal side affects, please let us know the name of it when you find it.
Wink
