Q: Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo And Acne

I started taking ortho tri-cyclen lo a while ago, and it made my face break out pretty bad. I stayed on it for a month before calling my doctor to ask her if I could switch to something else. She put me on normal ortho tri-cyclen, and I have been on that for almost a month, and my face hasn't gotten any better.

I know they say that it takes about 3 months for your body to get used to the hormones, but I am getting really frustrated with this as I don't even need to be on the pill. I don't know if I should stick with it and see if my face gets better, or if I should just stop them and see if my face goes back to normal.

Suggestions? Thank you. =)

If you don't need it, why are you on it?

Just in case I do need it sometime. Confused Because i'm not sexually active now, but in the future I won't have to worry about, "oh I just started my pills are they effective yet?" etc.

I'm on it for the same reason. I'm still a virgin, but its just in case I have an "uncontrolable fit of passion" haha....

I dunno though, i'm on ortho tri cyclen lo and the little bit of acne that I had cleared up in a few weeks.

Hey, you really should consider just getting off the pill until you really need it. Losing your virginity is something that you should give a lot of thougth to, and not just losing it in an "uncontrolable fit of passion". The real passion would be to save yourself for the right guy, and the right time. I'd say if the pill is making you break out that badly, and you're not sexually active, just get off of it and start it up once you decide to become sexually active.

The type of artificial progesterone in ortho tri cyclen lo has the ability to cause acne but rarely. Perhaps you're body isn't accepting of it and you should try another pill with a different kind of progesterone.

What confuses me is that isn't regular ortho supposed to help with acne?

Worried123, you misunderstood me. Well, no, you just dont know my background or my current relationship.

I went on the pill because I have been dating an amazing guy for about a year. He is a virgin also. We want to be each others firsts, but we dont want to plan exactally when we're going to do it. That way, since i've been on the pill I will be protected when it does happen.
