Hi there pokie:
i have some information for you, and hopefully it's at least somewhere to start. Polycystic ovaries (often called pcos or pcod) is a relatively newly discovered condition. That being said many doctors are unsure of what is the best treatment/therapy for it. Now your ovaries aren't neccessarily the reason that it has happened, and most studies point to it being an endocrine related disease more than the ovaries themselves (these days studies appear to suggest that whatever the trouble is with the ovaries are more a symptom than the cause, but with new things like this it's tough to really say). Seeing an endocrinologist is a good start for the "bigger picture" treatment of it. Most often women with pcos get put on the pill for the sole purpose of masking the pcos symptoms (such as giving a regulated period). There seems to be a good lot of debate whether being onthe pill makes pcos better, worse or is neutral.
Women with pcos have varied experiences with being able to release healthy eggs and therefore get pregnant. Some women have to see fertility experts, while some women don't need help conceiving at all, it's sort of a mixed bag.
There is a pretty good site you can look at to help:
http://www.Pcosupport.Org/ many women I know with pcos like this site alot.
Good luck, I hope that answered your questions.
