Painful Pelvis Area From Hips Spreading??? Posted: 07-27-04 20:50pm
I'm actually about 14 weeks pregnant and
i'm wondering if this pain is because my
hips are starting to spread. It hurts to
walk, it hurts around my tailbone/pelvis
area and lower back. It's just very
uncomfortable. I'm on my feet all day so
it doesn't make it any better. Has anyone
else experienced this?

The combination of being on your feet,
hormonal & body changes plus even at
14 weeks the baby may just be "hitting" on
a nerve is probably the cause.
Just try not to aggravate things, take it
easy & get as much relaxation time in
as you can - take a break whenever you
can (even if it's only at home - every
little bit helps & you won't get any
breaks after the baby is born for the next
god knows how many years!!

Those pains are really common in early
pregnancy when the new pressures of
amniotic fluid and expanding uterus
touches many nerves (sciatic usually a
problem and usually causes sharp pain
across buttocks or down leg(s), sometimes
causing your leg to "give out") we didn't
know existed, and stretches ligaments.
There are several articles at ivillage
about pregnancy and exercise that may be
helpful to you.
Remember though you will continute to get
uncomfortable and big, and many different
new things will become bothersome,
ligament and early growth pain should end
soon, and you will feel much better!
If you are concerned and the pain worsens
or becomes crampy or sharp for extended
periods of time, call your doctor!
Otherwise, get a good book, "what to
expect. . ." is a very helpful
series to have! Good luck!
