Q: Antibiotics And Lupus

New here so sorry for all the questions. I have an awful bladder infection and am being treated with antibiotics. I read on another website that there are some antibiotics that should not be given to people with lupus. It did not say which ones though. Does anyone know?
Thanks,
jt

Hi there! Welcome! Smile

some people with lupus react poorly/badly to sulfa drugs.

Thanks ladybrannon,
i'm sorry for the dumb questions but i'm learning as fast as I can. I know that i'm allergic to sulfa anyway so I won't be going that route. Thanks for the info.

What Happens If You Get a Sulfa Drug?
I have not been diagnosed with lupus even though it seems as if I have many of the symptoms for it. My ana is negative and I think the anti-nuclear whatever test is also negative. So, my rheumatologist said he is sure I don't have it. Well, until I get a definite diagnosis i'll continue to visit here.

Anyway, the rheumatologist did a test on me that found high quantities of antibodies to a common parasite. So, in order to treat that, he gave me high doses of a sulfa drug. That was awful! I had horrible headaches. I had diarrhea. It was only eating large quantities of food with the pills that kept me from throwing them up, because I sure did want to. The only thing I didn't get from the pills, that I think people with a sensitivity would probably get, is a rash.

Hi tallwoman!

A lot of people (myself included) practically or *do* flare. That can mean a host of things...

You can also find "sulfa" in other things, as well. There are some foods and drinks that also can cause this reaction(s). I can't drink wine...Smile
