Hi
i've been taking my bbt since march, 2005
and according to the chart my luteal phase
is short. I read that try to take the
temperature at as close to the same time
each day as possible -- set an alarm if
you need to. Staying within a half hour
either side of your average time is a good
idea because your temp can vary with the
time (i.E., if you usually take your
temperature at 6 a.M., it is ok to take
your bbt between 5:30-6:30, but the closer
to 6 the better). The normal variation is
by up to .2 degrees per hour -- lower if
you take your temperature early, higher if
you take it late.
It is best to take your bbt after a
minimum of 5 hours sleep, and at least 3
in a row is preferable.
I found some information about taking bbt
and it says:
your temperature reading can rise up to
1/10 of a degree for every half an hour
taken later than normal or fall 1/10 of a
degree for every half hour taken earlier
than normal. To get an accurate chart,
it is crucial to take your temperature as
close as possible to the same time
everyday. If you normally get up during
the weekdays at 6:00 am try and take all
your temperatures at this time.
Weekends can be tough....We all like to
sleep in, just remember that each
temperature that is not taken at the
normal time has to be adjusted (using the
1/10 for every half an hour rule) which
will get you close to what your
temperature should have been. Always log
the time your temperature was taken each
day and make a notation if your
temperature has been adjusted.
So, I have the question. Do I have to use
1/10 rule to adjust my temps if I wake up
later or earlier than my normal time
6:30am? Os should I just take my temps
if I wake up early after 3-5 hours
straight sleep and not to adjust my temps
if i''m up early or late? I'm confused, I
don'nt know which way is accurate. Any
info would be greatly appreciated.

I just came across your post, i'm charting
too, and expecially on the weekends I wake
up later than my normal 6:30 time, and
sometimes during the week I wake up
earlier.
What I did last month was if I woke
earlier, but didn't get out of bed, just
kind of fell back asleep i'd wait until
the alarm went off and took my temp then.
I had good results, my chart is a lot less
up and down than the month before. And
i'd set my alarm to take me temp
expecially when I was close to ovulating,
I didn't want to take it late and mistake
it for ovulation if it wasn't
i've never actually adjusted based on the
rule you've posted below. It's not
consistent with all women that they're
temps rise and fall 1/10 every half hour,
with some it's more, with some they may be
at the same temp for an hour or an hour
and a half. It will be more accurate for
you to do your best to take your temp at
the same time rather than artificially
adjusting it.
