Q: Question About Blood Tests

Hi, I really need to know exactly what standard non-hiv blood tests show, and if it is possible for aids to remain un-noticed even after a blood test/blood count. Lets say its about a year after possible exposure to hiv, and I get full bloodwork done, bloodcount and everything, would hiv show up, and if not, is that surefire proof that I dont have it? See, since about a year ago when I might have been infected, several strange things have been happening to me.
First off, I have been getting common everyday canker sores since I was little. Im 20 years old now, and recently ive been getting canker sores in new places, slightly farther up in my mouth and nearer my lips. This is alarming because they always appeared in the exact same areas my whole life, and now suddenly I can get them on my lips. Ive heard that canker sores are a natural malfunction of the body's immune system, and so 2 2 put together equals complete fear.

Secondly, my lymph nodes in my neck and groin area have become enlarged, not painful, just enlarged to a tender point.
And third, about 5-6 months after the time I could have been exposed, my tonsils became very infected, and they are still infected now (about 6 months later) although im getting medicine for them.

Luckily the bloodtests I mentioned earlier found no sign of hiv or anything else, its just that im still scared. Basically I want to eliminate all the possibilities. I have smoked for about 3 years now, so that might explain some of the symptoms. In fact, it all started as my tonsils became infected, so those could be the cause of it all. The bloodtests were done to try to determine what was wrong; in the end the tonsils were found to be infected. Also, my mother called the doctors after the tests were back and asked them if aids would show up in them (she knows im worried) and the doctors assistants told her "yes, it would show up". And yet, im not relieved. Ive long passed the sixth month window period, and strange things keep happening to my body. Its either the fact that I used to smoke, the fact that my tonsils are infected, or hiv, and I hope its not hiv. If someone knows detailed information about the nature of blood tests and their results, please please give me input, because im really scared. I have smoked and taken alcohol and marijuana occasionally since the incident, sometimes while I am on anti-depressents, and im hoping that can explain the messed-up nodes. As for any info about the blood test, id love to hear what you've got to say.

Edit- ok ok what I really wanna know in summation is this: would regular health care people be able to tell if hiv is in my blood test (common, standard blood test&blood count) and if so, how would they know? Would there be less of a certain type of cell, or would they actually see the hiv organisms swimming around?? Basically, does the fact that they didnt detect any hiv in my bloodtest mean that its not there, or is the only way to detect aids an actual hiv specific test?

They would have found it, yes, it would be prevalent in your blood work.
