Its not a good idea to diet at all. It will deprive your unborn baby of many things. When you diet your body releases a chemical that can harm your baby. I can't remember what its called but I can look it up and get back to you. I suggest you read the book what to eat when your expecting it will give you alot of help with your diet during and after pregnancy. Good luck.

I understand your need to feel like dieting while pregnant. However, it is not a good idea. What you can do is this and it is perfectly healthy while pregnant. You can look at the atkins diet and not do the weight loss plan, but you can do the sustaining the weight loss plan. I had to do something similar with my son because I had gestational diabetes. I only gained 20 lbs. During pregnancy. Which, they thought was great because I myself started out overweight .

Dieting While Pregnant
I don't think it's selfish at all to try to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle while pregnant and not to gain too much weight.
If you are already overweight when you become pregnant - you should only gain 15 to 25 pounds tops.

don't actually diet, just eat healthier. does that make sense? dieting can cause you to cut yourself short of valuable nutrients which are especially important to your baby. just focus on eating healthy foods.

Your priority at present moment should be your health and a baby.

You wrote that your weight is 170lbs but what about the height?Maybe you are within a healthy weight range and do not need any dieting and this is only in your head...

Whatever the case, all you need is a good nutrition plan which includes all of the necessary nutrients for both of you, a reasonable energy intake and a psychological support will work miracles too!

Exercise during pregnancy will not do harm-20 minutes or more of brisk walking every day will be great! That will elevate your mood, you will get fresh air and in addition burn off a bit of calories(of which you should start thinking less at this point).

Gd luck!

I don’t think it is a good idea to diet while being pregnant. I found a good solution to lose some weight, when I was expecting my third child. I used to order Bistro MD diet meals - It is approved by doctors, well balanced meals and tastes great. It worked really well for me.
