Q: Iud As Birth Control Option

I was wondering if anyone ever had an iud or knew someone that did? Hubby and I are considering this option since we don't plan to have children of our own (long story). Sterilization is too permanent for us because we are so young and you never know where life will take you. I have read some info on iuds and they have a newer one that is good for 5 years, releases progesterone, and can eliminate or lighten your periods while you have it. I haven't talked with my ob yet, but will this week. I know the dalcon shield was determined unsafe, but they've been used in europe a lot more than here in the us, and had little to no problems, with 98-99% effectiveness since that time. Thanks for any info or advice you can give me. Sorry if this was posted recently, I looked a little and didn't find anything.

Hi,there.I wanted an iud several years ago and my gyn at hte time told me no.He said because I had never had children that this was not a good choice for me due to the fact that it may decrease my chances for having children.I don't know what your doc may tell you,but it never hurts to ask,the worst they can tell you is no.Good luck to you!Patty

IUD
I currently use the IUD (the copper one) and my doctor told me that it is the next best thing to steralization. I wanted a tubal ligation but couldnt due to medical reasons, other than the trouble i am having now the first two months were fine. i never noticed it and it kept me protected. I think that it might just be what you need. THe doc told me that it has no effect on you getting pregnant once removed.
