What to Do When the Pain Gets Bad? Posted: 09-25-03 16:50pm
I am 23 and have been in chronic pain for
three years now, due to several surgies
that should have never happened. Only
now, after seeing over 50 doctors, am I
finding help. I have been removed from
my pain meds., hence, experiencing
enormous pain. I have went from being an
active student, a runner, and most of all
a good girlfriend, to a tmj disaster.
The pain is so bad I can't concentrate,
sleep, or even kiss my boyfriend. It is
now getting to a point where he is sick of
hearing my aches, and won't listen to my
concerns. I love him very much, but it's
hard to go through this alone. What to
do?

I know this dosent sound like much but try
it it worked for me.
3 aleve (otc pain med w/o aspirin)
1 heating pad(with towel so no burns)
1 comfy pillow
45 min (un interrupted)
take the aleve like 30-40 min before being
able to relax. Prop pillow up to sitting
postion or on back of couch. Get heating
pad and wrap with towel- dont want to burn
our face. Sit for 45 min each night.
Should feel better after a week or so.
Also if need to try at lunch bring
washcloth to work and boil water or hot
water and hold for 30 min or as much as
can and take the aleve throught day.

Thanks for the suggestions, I found that
heat pads work momentarily, but in the end
cause more pain. Personally ice works
better, and numbs the pain. Aleve is
great, i'll try taking three.
Thanks again

Hi, i'm new to the board. I just wanted
to say that I have tmj so bad that they
want to do sergery. I have had it for
many many years. What has made it
tolerable for me is neurotin. It is the
new "wonder drug". I tells your brain
that there is no pain; thus blocking the
pain from the body. I couldn't live
without it. Ask your Dr. But don't
give up!!!

Thanks for the advice, the docs wanna do
surgery to me too. I am so scared. Of
course I won't have it, the outcome is
seldom good after surgery. Is this
medication a narcotic?, my doc won't
prescribe if it is. Anyways, good luck
to you and thanks again.

Rawkeze~
i have been suffereing with tmj pain for
about 2 years. After fighting with my
regular dentist I was reffered to a
specialist. He got me a mouth guard and
it works wonders! You need to get help
right away! There are pain killer
medications you can go on to. Go to your
dentist and have them refer you to a
specialist!
