I have been on different meds for over a year now, latest is lovan. Have been taking it for 5 days now and feel so strange. Emotionally numb, groggy, suicidal etc. Has anyone else had reactions like this on this med? Is it me? Is it med? Im scared. I dont know who I am?

You are you this is the side effect of the new med and chemical that you body and mind is not used to, odds are, these feelings will go away after awhile, talk to your Dr., he may want to change your medication, most anti-depressents and anti-anxiety meds will do this at first. You might want to let your Dr. Know about this anyway.
Sincerely,
sandy

Thank you sandyallen, this may seem a minor thing but I was just so scared of my own mind last night and felt so alone with it. Having terribly evil thoughts and it really scared me. My doc is 6hours away, so am going to phone him shortly and discuss. Think I might work on inventing a magic wand that knows exactly which med for which person! Idea

If Anyone Is There I Could Really Use Some Support Rigt Now
I have just spoken to my Dr. We have decided to stop the lovan (prozac) and change to something else, not sure what yet...Prob go back to cipramil which I can function at a minimum on at least, until we work out what new med. I am so scared of my mind and my world doesnt quite feel real or something. I was so scared with thoughts I was having last night, im in early 20's but was starting to believe that I should never have children because what if I get angry or something and homicide them? This really bloody scares me. I feel completely out of my own mind, even when depressed, I still kinda feel, but now I am not sure who I am where I am. Any help would be really appreciated.

Do you have friends or family that you can go to for a little while that can help you until you can be more in control? That is what I would recommend, just explain to them what is going on and that you have changed meds, they should understand! If you don't, call your Dr. Back and explain it to him or her!
Sincerely,
sandy

My depression (including constant desire for suicide) migraines, anxiety etc have all been helped & some even stopped entirely since I started using a ces machine about 8 weeks ago check these out at apha-stim.Com & dynamind.Com this machine has been a godsend to me after 35years of mental anguish which has just been getting worse until my dr introduced me to the ces machine - he prefers to avoid meds if a totally helpful alternative with no negative side effects is available (of course the cost is a one off so drug companies don't get your repeat business!!).

give purple's advice a try. Though I am not against meds and was on them myself, doctors have a vested interest in over prescribing meds as they get rewards from the drug comapnies for doing so. If you can find an alternative that does not rely solely on meds it is well worth it. I got off meds after I learned to use cbt so you want to look into it as well though purple and I are having a hard time finding cbt resources to recommend in australia. The obitz and burns books are really good if you want to go to your library and look into cbt further.

I think it would be worth the effort to try and learn more about cbt and get involved in a program if you can find one. I really like the obitz book and it is a simple book to read and we used another really great book in my group called mastery of your anxiety and panic-third edition by michelle craske and david barlow which focusses more on panic disorder.

Patient Teaching ...
Is the responsibility of your doctor and nurse and pharmacist . You 've got 3 people you can call to see if you are a ) having side effects b ) having an adverse reaction or 3 ) simply following the normal pattern for adjustment to this new medication . So, dial one of the # 's mentioned above . May the force be with you .

Ducey, stated that she lives 6 hours from her dr so I suspect that she's in "the outback" which impacts on even "simple" phone calls & costs of same when you're that far away. Dr, nurse & pharmacist may all well be that dar away - so lollipop learn what you're suggesting & whether it's really feasible before suggesting it!!

Not to mention that many people have found that a) drs etc do not teach patients anything & b) they often misdiagnose &/or fail to listen to mere patients - both of which are part of the reason why ehealth etc are so vital for people who need advice.
