:d hi, this is my first time to post. Is there any relief with the terrible cough associated with copd. I dont know if I have brochitis,or emphysema, just know I have asthma, and copd. Not a smoker since I was 17,and I am 47 now. Any help out there?

Are you on oxygen, do you have an inhaler, such as albuteral, what does your Dr. Say. You might get a second opinion, this sometimes helps!
Sincerely,
sandy

Re: Cough
Hi,
no,i am not on oxygen, but that might change, since my sats are at an 84 when I sleep. I have had this terrible cough since 1996,and have been on pulmacort, azmacort.Albuterol, and now, combivent, for about 6 weeks, have not seen an improvement. Doctor says about in a few months, might put me on steroid. Isnt there a pill or something?

Have you tried prednisolone - a steroid - but it is the only thing that has helped a cough I developed out of the blue late last year - I take it along with puffers & vicks vaporub - but it is what works!!

Have you seen a pulminary specialist? You probably should if you haven't they can test you on things that a noram md will not.

They don't like to give out predizone for more uhan a week because of the fact that it is a "steriod".

I am on spriva and foradil for my copd and it really helps a lot. I can breathe better, and if I dont smoke I don't have the cough like I was having.

Since, you are on oxygen for the sleep apena, you shouldn't be having much problems anyway, but, thats not always true.

You probably need an antibotic, which they regular md's aren't looking at, you also might want to be checked for alpha-1, which is a "rare" disease but they are finding that it's not as rare as they say it is. This is an antibody that your body "should" be producing, and it isn't. I have that also, and I just started the "blood" transfusions yesterday, it's not actual "blood" but a "blood" material. The website for it is www.Alphaone.Org...The testing for it is free they will send it to you you can look at the webpage and see if it fits your symptoms. A lot of regular md"s dont check for it, but a good pulminary specialist will, is what I was told by my nurse yesterday.

Good luck
