Q: Always Dreaming

Hi,

my name is mhy. I don't usually go to forums for help but I need all the help that I can get!

Since my grandfather died about 3 months ago, i've dreamt nearly every single night except when i'm sleeping next to my boyfriend (which is hardly & not to mention forbidden). I'm not getting decent sleep because of them. My dreams consists of nightmares & daily routines. The most common dreams I have is of me not being able to run because my legs aren't strong enough. What does that mean?

Some say that I have been having dreams because I never really got to know my grandpa since he is in the philippines and i've lived in australia most of my life. I've been back to the philippines a couple of times but i've never been close to his side of the family (which is my dad's side). I also think that it might be because i've come to that stage where everyone else my age (21) have their lives sorted out.. Career-wise... I on the contrary don't know where i'm headed... That probably explains the dreams of not being able to run.

What do you guys think and how do you think I can have a night of decent sleep? I've tried herbal remedies but have not worked, i've tried reading before I sleep, i've tried drinking milk before I go to bed.... Hmmm I hear that drinking a glass of red wine would work? Does it?

It's probably strange if you haven't been much of a dreamer previously. I think some people either dream more than others or are just more aware of their dreams. I love dreaming! It is like having an entirely extra existence. I have a few recurring dreams that I really enjoy. But I have also developed the ability to wake myself up from bad dreams, so that is something you might try working on. Once you are aware that you are dreaming, you are able to take some measure of control.

Hard to say whether it has anything to do with your grandfather's death, especially as you weren't close. But you might be stressed about your lack of direction -- on the other hand, if you think that every other 21 year old knows where they are headed and has their life sorted out, I think you are being a bit hard on yourself! They don't, and there's no reason why you should!

I always dream, even when napping, if I fall asleep thinking of something cool, I somehow work it into my dream. I can't control my dreams, just what it is going to be about, by what I think before I fall asleep. If I think of apartments, I dream of them, dogs, cats, sex, etc. ;) and I always dream I can't run, I try so hard, but I still move in slow motion. I also dream I can't open my eyes all the way, a lot. Hmmm.... ???
