Q: to Those Taking Adderral

I've had adhd since I was a little kid. My mom knew this but didn't think medication was the key. I ended up getting on stratera which did nothing. My room mate had adderral so I took 20 mg of it a few times. Wow. This stuff helped me out big time. When I came home I would study for a couple of hours and not mind, instead of watching tv. My grades improved as I bummed off of him(sounds so bad). I told my mom what a great effect it had on me and she set up an appointment with a psychiatrist for tuesday. This lady knows I have taken adderral in the past without a prescription but says she'll prescribe me to it after I come in. What kind of tests can I expect if any?

Another question I have is: should I tell her that 20mg is the right dosage? I've tried 10mg to no avail. Or will she think i'm just abusing it? I know in my heart that 20 mg will do nothing but good and anything less might be a waste. I want to keep it completely honest with this woman but how do I come off like i'm not an adderral fiend just trying to get a fix?(lol) any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Edit- i'm not sure if this is the right forum to post it in. Sorry if that is the case. But it did help my anxiety out as well.

I don't take adderall but I think that in dealing with a dr who you want to do what you believe to be right the best way to get her help & to have her believe you is

a) to be totally honest about what you have been on(officially) in the past, when & for how long & the effects or lack of &

b) to explain when & why you took your friends adderal, the effects & positive changes you believe it has had & about trying 10mg & for how long etc then

c) listen to her - answer any other questions totally(capital letters here!!) honestly - I mean if she asks about drugs, alcohol, orgasms - anything you answer honestly - she will then begin to believe that she can trust you to tell her the truth then

d) if there are tests, or even other meds that she asks you to try - do these things & give any meds a fair honest go & report back according to what you found etc so

e)then you should have done your part in showing her you can be trusted, that you are willing to hear her views & try alternatives & there may be very good reasons why she may want you on something other than adderal - but she should if all else fails hear you & do as you ask.

Remember a dr is only a mechanic for your body & if a car mechanic didn't listen you go to another one!!!!

Your Addicted
It sounds to me that you are on your way to becoming addicted to it. I've been addicted to it for 8 years and I have finally washed my hands of it (i needed detox). I know that it helps you out a lot, but if you ever need to come off of it, it's going to be very hard. My only advice is to not abuse it. Don't take that extra pill when the urge comes, and it will. Adderall is a mixture of four different amphetamine salts. It's very powerful and if you let it, it will control your life. My recovery is very difficult. I just found out that my aunt tried to commit suicide because she was on amphetamines.
