After Gallbladder Surgery? Posted: 07-16-04 01:14am
Just wondered what peoples experiences
were after having their gallbladder
removed? I am facing this prospect and am
curious as to what any side effects are or
if you can continue on the same diet.
I confess I have a perchant for hot chips
but the pain it causes me after eating
them is not worth it.
Can you eat fatty foods after this surgery
without side effects like diarreah and
nausea?
My mum had her gall bladder removed
earlier last year I think it was. For
the first like month after surgery it
takes a while for your body to recover.
My mum had 2wks of bed rest, and now she
has a relatively normal diet, she eats
alot more fruit though. But you can have
a relatively normal diet, only side
effects can be dioreah (spell check on
that please?!) but my mum has never
suffered with that, and she's been havin
bbq's and everything since. So yeh, you
can have a normal diet!

The first 2 weeks watch your diet, it has
been 2 months since mine and he only
problem I have is too much sugar at once
(pancake syrup and orange juice). Other
wise nothing else seems to bother me.

After surgery, the doctor will most likely
(with full confidence) tell you that you
can eat whatever you want. Not true! Be
very careful about what you eat. Before
my surgery I became a vegetarian so that I
wouldn't experience anymore pain. After
surgery, I started eating like I still had
a gallbladder. Well, I found that my
body didn't appreciate it so I became a
full fledged vegetarian! I feel great.
You have to be willing to change the bad
eating habits we as americans have. No
soda, no fast food, no pork...Trust me
it's a sacrifice your body will thank you
for for the next 80 years. I'm only 24,
not 70, so I learned that you can't take
your body for granted. Oh, I can't leave
the bbq chips alone! Thank god they
don't bother me anymore!

I just got mine done two days ago. If I
eat certain things I do feel sick. You
just have to take it slow and see what
your body will accept. I have stuck to
soups and a couple bites of a turkey
sandwich.Nothing fried .......To scared!

since you won't have a gallbladder to
store excess bile and squeeze it out to
help digest that big fatty meal, it's
only logical to assume you will have
trouble eating big meals in the future.
The majority of us don't need those big
meals anyway. I suggest you take the
"hint" nature has given you and change
your eating habits. You'll feel better,
and your body will thank you.
Ps: that's "diarrhea"

I had my galbladder surgery over 20 years
ago and after my galbladder surgery I was
unable to eat a lot of foods like I did
before, especially a lot of acidy foods, I
did and still do get diarrhea when I eat
certain foods.
Good luck!
Sincerely,
sandy

cause I have to make an awful dission
either go thru with the pregnancy with
eating a no fat or low fat diet and risk
my gallbladder blowing up and infection
and all the good stuff or have an abotion

I was also pregnant with my 3rd child when
I had my first gallbladder attack. I was
only 3 months pregnant. Well, I waited
for 2 years before having my gallbladder
taken out. I wouldn't worry about the
gallbladder right now. Pregnancy usually
brings on the first attack in women,
something about hormones. After my first
attack when I was pregnant, I didn't have
a second attack until after my baby was
born. Just be careful in what you eat,
you don't want to end up in the hospital
while your pregnant. Good luck.

Gallbladder Surgery Recovery Posted: 06-24-05 07:05am
Hi there,
surgery was 6 months ago and for the first
month or two I was good, but I found it
difficult to keep going with very low fat
diet. For the last so many months I
basically forgot I had the surgery and
just ate what I felt to at the time as I
was busy with two toddlers! However.
I have decided to pull myself into gear
because the pain that you feel when you
have eaten something really fatty eg.
Chips or cake or what not, I think should
kick you into gear but you really have to
get your head around the concept of what a
gall bladder does and when you don't have
one....What does this mean! I have a
reason to live and be healthy....I have a
responsibility to be healthy and not in
pain. So I have decided to kick myself
back into gear and be more tougher on
myself about what I put into my mouth.
The difficulty is when the kids are
sleeping and you want to vege out for the
hour that they are sleeping.
