Please Please Help Me Understand!!!!

Ok.....I went to the doctor on july6th and
according to my ultrasound I was 8weeks
and 6days!! My boyfriend and I had
unprotected sex mid-april threw may7th, he
ejaculated in me several times!!! I had a
period(normal) in april but in may it was
very ab-normal and I only had a brownish
dis-charge for about 2-day's.....May 7th
was the last time we slept together until
recently but he is getting confused on
things as far as estimating conception by
due date because my due date being feb 9th
does make it sound weird?? There is no
question about paternity, I know he is the
father but how can I explain to him about
all this? Does the 8weeks and 6days men
the age of the baby? Or how long my body
has been pregnant?? He won't come to
doctor's visits or call because he thinks
he is not the father and what not..I want
to sit down with him and explain how all
this work's but I need to understand it as
well myself?? If I knew more about what
the ultrasound meant then I could
understand better!! So do I tell him to
count back 8weeks and 6days as of july6th
and tell him that the sperm that went into
my body around that time started this
whole pregnancy???? Please someone help
me..Until he see's that this is his baby
and I don't want to wait till the end to
do a paternity test because I would like
him here now, how can I explain all
this??? Please help me

Subtract Two Weeks

If an u/s shows you to be 9 weeks
pregnant, the fetus is only 7 weeks. The
first two weeks don't really count because
it would be your period, and ovulation
time, your not actually pregnant the first
two weeks. They do count it as part of
the 40 weeks though. So a baby born at
40 weeks
would only be 38 weeks old. I know it's
a bit confusing, I hope I didn't make it
worse for you. Also keep in mind that
your pregnant for 40 weeks which is
actually closer to 10 months than 9.

I Missed That Period

That is where alot of the confusion is
coming in...That 2-week time that they are
refering to is when I didn't have a
period, I had brown-discharge maybe 2-days
not really even enough for a painty
liner?? So could my body have actually
been pregnant in that 2-weeks. It is all
really confusing!!

Now I'm Confused

I would have your doctor explain better to
you on your next appointment, and don't
leave until your satisfied with the
answer, that's what he's there for. You
may have ovulated at a different time
which would throw off this perfect
scenario, but that would also make it seem
like your u/s might be off by a week or
two, which is possible.
Or the doctor might have been trying to
tell you the gestational age of the fetus,
which would put your dates right on from
when you with your boyfriend. (the baby
would be 9 weeks, and you would be 11
weeks pregnant.) that would have put time
of conception around may 4th/5th?Ask your
doctor to clear that up for you at your
next appointment.

I am hoping he does..Lol...This is driving
me bonkers!!!!! Lol...I know on my
ultrasound at the bottom it say's 8weeks
and 6days and then a + or - 5 day's,
that's all I can see and that the baby is
3cmm.....Does the baby's age start at the
time sperm enter;s your body or from the
time the fertilized egg attaches itself to
your uterus?? I don't go back to the doc
for like another 2-weeks and in the mean
time im going insane..Lol.....Thank you
for all your advice!!!!

The sperm that enterd me on the 7th of may
started this pregnancy then that discharge
in may could have been implantation
bleeding from what I have read. I know my
periods are normally 5-7 day's and this
one was only a lite dis-charge for maybe
2-day's tops!! Are ultrasounds ever wrong
any??

Yes, u/s can be wrong. When they do the
u/s they take measurments of everything,
bones/stomach/head, and the measurments
give them an average of how old the baby
should be. If your baby is small for
it's size it will appear that the fetus is
younger than it actually is, or bigger
vice versa. There was a question about
mine @ 20 weeks because the baby was only
measuring 17 weeks. I was positive about
my dates because I wrote them all down.
(we had been trying for 6 month) so we
had to do another u/s to make sure he was
growing on schedule, and check my placenta
placement. The next one was 4 weeks
later, and it showed 4 weeks of growth, so
my dates were off. (due to medication)
but had he not had 4 weeks of growth, my
dates would have been right and the u/s
wrong. So it is possible, especially if
the fetus is smaller/bigger than normal.
The u/s sound gives them a very close
estimate, but it's not exact.

Everything is alright. Lets say that you
and your bf conceived on may 7th, well it
takes a few days for thee fertilized egg
to reach your uterus and implant itself.
Once that happens your body starts to
produce hcg. Anyways, pregnancy isn't an
exact science, tell him to get over
himself, and if he is that worried about
it, get a dna test once the baby is here.
Good luck to you :d

If I had been smoking "alot" would that
make the fetus actually smaller then what
it is! I have quit now but I had been
smoking a long time and during this
pregnancy probably right at 2-month's of
this pregnancy I smoked not knowing I
was!! I have read that a fetus in it's
"8th" week from conception is 3cm..So
instead of being 9 weeks if u give or take
those few day's I was actually in my 10th
week or going on it! I never relized our
bodies were so confusing..Lol

I'd trust the ultrasound. They are very
accurate in dating a pregnancy early in
the pregnancy. They become less and less
accurate the farther along you go.

What If....

The ultrasound dosen't add up with the
time of conception....From the moment I
found out I pretty much knew the "exact"
night I became pregnant!! Judging by my
ultrasound it throw's my conception off by
a couple of day's!! And the ultrasound
say's I can give or take 5-day's so
wouldn't it be safe to do that, that's the
only way things make sense,,if I go by the
"exact" day's on the ultrasound then that
would put me concieving at a time that him
and I didn't even have sex what so ever!!!
Paternity is not an issue here but all
these dates are making things extrememly
hard on mine and his relationship because
for one he thinks I was w/someone else
which "never" happened!!! And he only
see's "number's" and dosen't relize what
all a women's body goes threw!! I am
sooooo confused!!!!

Ultrasounds are almost always off by
birthweight age and size (length) each
time I went in(3times) they was off by 2
to 3 pounds and considering a babys weight
2 or 3 pounds is alot they told me the
babys were to weigh 10 or 11 pounds and
they weighed 7'10,8'7, and 8'9

Can be off some!! In my case it would
"half " to be off and I know also that my
due date is off because they are udging
everything on "number's" and what not!!
They say a women just knows when she
becomes pregnant and also when the baby
will be born.....My mother told me that
she argued with the doctor's the whole
time she was pregnant with me!! They told
her I would come in the end sep, but she
kept telling them no way..She will be here
in august and guess what...I was born in
august!! Mom told me to go with my gut,
that a mother's instinct never lies!!

Even if you had sex on may 7th it may have
been upto 3 or 4 days later that you
actually concieved
this is because sperm can survive a few
days in the uterus and fallopian tubes
before meeting the egg (which may have
been ovulated say on the 8th or 9th).
Alternatively the egg may have been
ovulated on the 5th or 6th and you may
have concieved virtually immediately (this
is why doctors can only give you and
expected due date and not an exact one).
Assuming you had sex evening/night of 7th
and there was a ready and willing egg
waiting around the
chances are it took 24 hours for the sperm
to find and fertilise the egg - if this
was late at night then you could have been
the 9th you concieved (assuming the was an
egg waiting)
hope this makes sense and explains why it
is easier to go by first day of last
menstrual period and to give that 2 week
"buffer zone" making you sound 2weeks
further on than you are. Ie at 8+5 that
is 8+5 from your last period - not
neccesarily the exact time you have been
pregnant.
