Develpmental Dysplasia of the Hip Posted: 07-15-04 11:14am
I was diagnosed with the bilateral ddh at
the age of six months. After spending
the next six months of my life in a brace,
my parents were told everything was
perfect. Yet, at the current age of 20 I
continue to experience severe pain in my
left hip. Throughout my life I have seen
no doctor other than a general
practitioner and had no more than simple
x-rays to examine the problem... But I
have no medical insurance to cover jumping
from doctor to doctor to find one to help
me. Does anybody have any suggestions or
advice for me? What can be done;
anything? Do I just have to live with
the pain? What questions do I need to ask
the doctor?
Thanks

I should add that after several trips to
the doctor and x-rays, they still insist
that there is nothing wrong. If there is
nothing wrong, why doesthe pain knock me
out so often?

Just because they may "say" that
"nothing's wrong"...Doesn't necessarily
mean that there "is" nothing wrong...
It just means that by clinical evaluation
there are no found abnormalities..
Difficult to get at when you're in pain,
isn't it? I can't imagine that when I
get my tests and results back, them saying
"nothing's wrong" and kicking me out...
Pain is pain...
All you can really do (and this is not
going to sound like much help), is keep
seeing "a" doctor of some sort...Until the
problem is found...
I'm not of much service when it comes to
'costs and healthcare
programs'...Appologies ...
Whatever happens keep posting us!

I have no idea if I am doing this right
but I am trying to reach shannon about her
chronic hip pain. I had dysplacia as a
child and had to wear a brace for months.
I had no problems after that untill I was
around 20 or so. I'm hoping I can help
becuse our problem seems so similar.

It might be worthwhile to get an mri done
of your hip. There's other things that
can be going on with your hip besides bone
problems; there's alot of soft tissue
problems that can cause pain, i.E, muscle
sprains/tears, ligament sprains/tears,
cartilage problems. Standard x-rays are
limited as to what they show; mri tells
the story of the condition of all of the
soft tissue components of the hip.
