Hello.
I had been on lexapro for about 8 months
steady. I originally tried to take it
slow, 10mg per day with the weekends off.
I felt less anxiety and was able to sleep
, though my home life had changed some so
that may have been the root of those
issues. I have had clynical depression
snce I was diagnosed at 14 years old, and
probably had been affected by childhood
depression as well (to give you some
background) thogh I had never taken meds.
After the first 6-8 mnths of the slow
approach I told my Dr. That I really
hadn't noticed a dramatic change and that
I still felt basically the same, so my
dose was upped to 20mg. After about 3
months of this dose, taking it full time
every day, I was felt fairly content,
however, I in tern have gained 20lbs. I
quit taking the meds about 6 months ago
mainly due to this reason, I wasnt sure to
what end the weight would keep piling on.
I excercised, though not regularly (daily)
while on this medication and ate good
food, maybe too much?? I am currently
very unhappy with this weight gain which I
cant seem to lose even though I have been
active atleats three times a week for the
past couple of months.
I would sit down with your Dr. Or even a
psychotherapist who prescribes these meds
and really talk about how you feel (good
or bad) and the weight gain...And in
relation to seratonin increasing an
apetite or inhibiting proper digestion.
just an fyi, I had no idea this would
cause weight gain. I was told weight loss
could be a side affect, no one mentioned
i'd be fat ...
Hope all goes well.
