My son went to the doctor today to get checked for a sinus infection . He is 16 yrs old. The doctors suspects mono. His glands were swollen. His tonsillis were covered with white spots. Eye lids were swollen. He took a culture to be sure of no strep infection. Later on when we got home he had really bad stabbing pains in his upper left shoulder area. He took some 800 motrin and the pain lessened. We are supposed to go get blood work for mono. The spleen was not enlarged when the doctor felt it this morning but later this nite he does have pain on his left side now. Not bad he can feel something different now. What is going on?

My mom told me when I was a child one night I got rapidly sick out of nowhere and had a high fever but my only complaint was that my shoulder hurt. She was confused and called the doctor who said to bring me straight to the hospital. It turned out I had pnuemonia and that depending on what part of the lung the pnuemonia is where you will feel pain. My pnuemonia was in the upper part of my lung and the pain I felt seemed like it was in my shoulder. I'm not saying that is why your son has shoulder pain but it sounds kinda familiar to me.
