Has anyone out there gotten this kind of kidney infection due coliform bacteria in well water?? A friend of mines daughter age 34 developed pyelonephritis and ended up in the hospital several days on iv antibiotics, then cipro for 10 days. This was approximately 5 months after the house that she was living in had to have the septic system redone. It was an older house on a slab. The septic system was in the front yard and the land graded to the back of the house. The well was in the back yard. We are just wondering if fecal matter could have come from the septic system, going through the gravel under the slab and into the well. The well has been tested and was found to have coliform bacteria.

Never had it before...But when I was a kid, we had to close our private well because the state tested it and found bacteria that could have only come from fecal matter!

My parents had to dig (324 ft down) a new well through a drilling company. Until it was dug, we had to boil all our water...Even to take a bath!

I know this doesn't really answer your question...Other then to say that I am sure it is possible for fecal matter to contaminate water given the right circumstances. Is this what happened here? No idea, but I do know most states offer free or cheap testing of drinking water on private wells.
