I am 21 years old and was in a car accident in 2001. I was hit in the left shoulder by an airbag and suffered a whiplash. The doctors didn't seem to believe me when I told them how much pain I was having in my shoulder. Maybe I just didn't complain enough, I don't know! My arm only goes up to about 60-90 degrees. I have a lot of pain and its been this way since the accident although its quite worse now. They did mris 2 months ago (2 1/2 years later!!) and found out that I have a type ii slap tear of the labrum. I'd never heard that term before but it seems like something that shouldn't be left for 3 years untreated. I did go to physio for about 3 months right after the accident but was dismissed because I was getting worse instead of better. I went to an orthopedic surgeon a few weeks ago and he wants to do surgery but I have to have an arthrogram and another mri first. Is anyone familiar with slap tears and if so, how effective would surgery be? I just hope it hasn't been left too long!
