I was diagnosed about 6 months ago with viral cardiomyopathy based on an echo and stress test. My ejection fraction was 20%. I have now been on multiple medications including coreg (now titrated up to 25 mg twice a day), altace, digoxin, lasix, potassium, crestor. My ef is now up to 43% based on a repeat echo. In doing research on the web, I have found several sites where they say the survival rate for this condition is only 25% or 50% for 5 years. My doctor has never mentioned anything like this to me. Are these survival rates accurate or just electronic hoopla. If its true, what are the main factors as to who survives beyond the 5 years and who does not? I will not be seeing my doctor for several months & would like to know.
