Hey, Im Thinkin G of Going Anorexic Posted: 07-07-04 17:51pm
Hi there, im 14 year old boy..I am
thinking of going anorexic to lose weight,
when I went to the doctor for a normal
chek up he said I was over weight but if I
maintain my weight until I grow up I
should be fine but I have increased by 8
kilos in 1 year so I am now 70kg! !!!
That is too much. If I go anorexic how
much weight will I lose? Some ppl I know
have gone anorexic and they have gone so
thin. What shall I do? I am really
positive in going anorexic but everyday I
will take the right amount of vitamins
through vitamin pills. What shall I do?
I need help.

Sam, I think you know deep down what the
answer to your question is. If you decide
to "go anorexic", you might as well decide
to commit suicide. Haven't you read the
posts of anorexic people on this board and
how unhappy they are? I know two people
who died from anorexia. And they were in
their teens, not much older than you.
There are healthy ways to lose weight.
You can lose weight without starving and
slowly killing yourself. It will require
eating a balanced diet, and exercising,
which sounds boring, but is the key to
weight loss. Your doctor said you are
fine, so why are you so worried? At 14,
you are still growing, and as you grow
taller, your weight distributes evenly on
your body. How tall are you?
By "going anorexic", you will shorten your
life span. You will make yourself and
your family miserable. You will damage
yourself. Though you are young, surely
you must know that anorexia is a deadly
disease, not a way of dieting??
Speak to your doctor or a dietician, they
will give you advice on how to eat
healthy, and exercise! Do something that
you enjoy - if exercising is fun, you will
do it more often. Over a period of 6
months, you should definitely see some
changes. But at your age, don't crash
diet, and don't starve yourself. Never a
good idea.
Do you have somebody to talk to, somebody
you trust? Tell them about your concerns
regarding your weight. Remember, at the
end of the day, it is more important what
kind of person you are, and a number on
the scales does not define the unique and
wonderful person you are inside.
Good luck and take care!

Thanks for all the help, I have decided to
start dieting but on very little food such
as salad or cereals only (some meals I
will skip) I also have started to do more
excersising.

Hi sam,
i think you didn't fully understand what I
was trying to tell you in my post.
"dieting" and "skipping meals" will get
you into trouble. Believe it or not, in
the long run it will make you fatter than
before. You know why? Because you are
slowing down your metabolism, and you are
more likely to overeat if you restrict
your food and skip meals. Because sooner
or later, your body is going to protest
and you will start craving fatty foods.
And then you might binge. That's what I
did when I was bulimic. I started out
like you said you want to: skipping meals,
practically starving, eating mainly fruit
and veg. Then I got really hungry, of
course. I started to have binges, and
then felt so bad that I threw up. I did
this for over 4 years. Now that i've
stopped, my body is so confused, I have
put on a stone even though I still don't
eat very much! Because I have starved my
body so long, it will take about a year
for me to be ok again. The same thing
happens to anorexics and people who do
strict diets. Believe me, i've been
there, done that. In the end, you gain
back all the weight and put on more weight
on top of it. Do you want that to happen
to you?
You need nutrients, vitamin pills are no
replacement. Do more exercise instead.
Exercise is better. You did say that you
do exercise more, and that is good! Do it
about three to 4 times a week, 30 minutes.
And eat healthily. Not too much fat
and sugar, enough carbohydrates, fruit and
veg, etc. It's not easy to eat healthy,
I got quite confused about it because I
never knew what healthy eating was. But
a dietician can help you with that - ask
your gp!
I know it's hard to convince you, because
you desparately want to be thinner, and
you may be at a point where you don't want
to take any advice. But imagine - you
can have the best of both worlds: eating
normally and being healthy, and still
being slim! You don't need to starve,
mate. You are still growing, you will
not grow properly if you don't eat right.
I know I sound like a teacher here, but
remember, i've been through everything,
and come out battered and bruised at the
other end, but i'm alive, and i'm so happy
for that. I just want others to benefit
from what i've been through, without you
having to go through the same thing, or
worse!
Please think about it, okay?

Hey sam I think that wanting to be
anorexic is not the answer. You want to
lose weight but you don't want to become
actually sick do you? You want to be
healthy and by becoming anorexic is
diffentely not the way. I wish you look
in the future and I hope you think about
what you are doing before you go too far.

Questions 4 U? Posted: 07-25-04 01:10am
Sam,
please answer these questions then people
will be able to give you some more fully
informed advice.
1. How tall are you?
2. What sort (be specific) of exercise do
you do?
3. How often & for how long do you
exercise?
4. What would you normally (repeat
normally!!) eat for each meal & for
snacks in an average day?
5. Do you have (or suspect you have) any
medical problems?
6. Are you depressed, anxious worried
about anything (specifically or in
general) other than your weight?
7. Do you have any brothers or sisters
who are having problems or who are very
successful?
8. Are there people (family, friends,
counsellors whatever) you can talk to?
9. What year are you in at school &
how are you doing at school in general?
10. What are your interests (outside of
school)?
11. Do you have many friends?
12. What do you think you want to do when
you leave school?
I understand that some of these questions
may seem irrelevant but I assure you they
aren't - it's amazing how everthing in our
lives affects everything else & how
altering one thing that seems irrelevant
& unrelated can impact on something
else in our lives.
Please, if you want to change your life
for the better & lose weight!! Answer
these questions fully & honestly.

thats exactly right, anorexia is not a
choice....Its not something u just
"decide" to do one day....U might want to
lose weight but thats a totally different
thing...."i am thinking of going anorexic
to lose weight" - that doesnt even make
sense
im sorry but I really dont like it when
ppl make ignorant comments like that when
they dont seem to understand anything
about it!
I hope everyone is well

thats what im feeling from this post!!
Its not a choice u can make, it is a
disease...................................
....
And 'dieting' the way u are talking about
doing it, is not right, nor will it be
effective. If u lose weight by starving,
skipping meals etc, it might come off
quick at first, but u will only gain it
right back and mess up ur metabolism. If
u want to lose weight and keep it off, the
only way is the healthy way.. That is
excersizing along with eating at least
1,500 calories, and healthy. .That
doesnt mean just salads and cereal??? U
need protein, fats, carbs, veggies, fruits
and dairy.. U need all the food groups
to lose weight effectively. You need to
do some research obviously....Ive had an
eating disorder for 2 1/2 years now.. I
didnt just decide one morning 'im going to
go anorexic or bulimic to lose some
weight' .. It doesnt work like that at
all.. But the more u start restricting it
will only spiral into a world of hell.
.The last thing u want is your whole world
to revolve around food and weight.
