Hi Yall

Hi yall, I am new to this forum and thought I would give you all a bit of info on me. My name is brenda but yall can call me bren, I am 31 years old and have been married to a gem of a man for 16 years this coming august. Hubby and I have 3 sons together and hubby is a truck driver.

I was diagnosed bipolar when I was 14 years old while being hospitalized in a psychiatric ward. I was hospitalized for almost 3 months. I met hubby while I was in the hospital, I was eventually allowed to leave the hospital to go to school and that is where we met, he didnt mind that I was hospitalized and didnt mind that I am bipolar. He is a treasure. I stopped takin the lithium about a month after I was released from the hospital and didnt start on medication again til may of 2001. I don't know how hubby put up with me all this time of being unmedicated but he did and understood me, there were times I was violent towards him but he would just grab hold of me and hold me tight till I calmed down, like I said he is a treasure. I am very lucky to have him in my life.

I am currently taking 40 mgs of celexa and 5 mgs of zyprexa and 500 mgs of depakote. My dr is weening me off of the zyprexa because it has made me borderline diabetic, so soon I will only be taking the celexa and the depakote. But hopfully he can give me something to help me fall asleep. When I was on the 10 mgs of zyprexa I was allways ready for bed by 9 o'clock but now I cant fall asleep, or I will lay there for hours b4 I finally do fall asleep. My mind wont stop running.

I can't hold down a job, I have tried many a time and finally just gave up and am currently in the process of trying to get social security disability for the bipolar. I have never been able to hold a job for more than 7 months and when I leave it is either in a fit of rage or I am in tears telling them I quit. I also have no attention span and no sense of time and most times no sense of obligation. I will be talking to you and you to me and I will be looking you right in the eye and not hear a word you have said to me. Things have to be explained to me over and over and most the time if I have to do something (obligation) I will forget all about it. I have a program on my computer to try and help me with all this ( like taking my medication) it sets off alarms at specific times reminding me to do things otherwise I would forget to do them.

Well this took a long time to type out, I kept stopping and comming back to it and had to retype it all cause apparently it timed out on me lol I hit preview and I had to sign in again and poof everything I typed was gone lol. Gonna copy it this time b4 I hit submit incase it gets me again lol. You all have a great day......Huuuuuuuugs bren

Hi bren,

your husband sure is a treasure - you mention 3 boys do they take after him?? Wink if so how old I have a 16 yr old dtr who needs a treasure of a guy in her life!! :d Laughing

you sound like sleep is definitely needed & it might help the concentration, after all no-one can concentrate when tired or too drugged.

Just a couple of thoughts, do you do any daily exercise (tired body might help sleep) - do you keep your mind active right up until you go to bed or do you try to unwind before bed so that your mind is more ready for sleep.

Warm milk helps many people sleep. The opposite of unwinding your mind helps others - reading, tv, knitting etc. Another thing that might be worth trying but it takes awhile to get used to it & learn so that you can get it to work & the committment may be a problem - relaxation/meditation.

There is also a machine ces - check out dynamind.Com - health pax - it runs on a 9v battery & adjusts brain waves & it heps sleep, pain, depression, anxiety etc _ it has really helped me & you can use it while watching tv or whatever - they (dynamind) also have a thing called a thoughtstream which I have just ordered as it seems like it would help me further but I have yet to try it (obviously) but you might check it out at their site too.

Anyway good luck.

Hi cheri,
thanks for the reply. Yes I do get exercise every monday thru friday. I go work out at the gym for 30 mins a day it's like curves. I will try the machine thing out but it will have to wait a little while til after I get my bills paid. I am allways so worried bout the bills, makes hubby upset at times he says he knows what is due and I need to calm down about the bills lol. How much does it cost? Do you remember? And by the way.......I have a son who will be 16 on sept 2 lol. He's almost 6 foot tall and has long dark brown hair and a beard and mustache ............ Lol

Bren, if you go to dynamind.Com you'll see the cost which is $295 which includes a thoughtstream machine as well & free postage within the states - the thoughtstream is a sound & light machine - if you check dynamind & also alphastim.Com you'll get the details of what these machines can do - but alpha stim is dearer!!!!

Try the other things I suggested (unless you already have) re helping you sleep - reading, warm milk, relaxation etc etc etc - it can't hurt.

My daughter was 16 on may 21 is 5ft tall with long brown hair!! & brown eyes - no beard or mustashe !!!! I also have a son 9 who is a totally "wild thing"!!

Hi,

i'm mia, just wanted to let you know to get off the the zyprexa. There is a classaction lawsuite going on for the people who have developed diabetes due to taking zyprexa. Several of the symptoms you described can be related to diabetes , so the next time you have a doctors appointment get tested. I also was taking zyprexa and developed diabetes, with all the confusion and symptoms you were describing. Also, if you have developed diabetes, find out about the classaction lawsuite, you might be intitled to medical reimbursement.

Good luck

mia

Hi mia,

i contacted someone about the lawsuit but they said since it was caught b4 I became full blown diabetic there is nothing they can do. I am now borderline diabetic because of the zyprexa.

Coffee,
i agree coffee has been my med of choice for the past 10 years. I have been diagnoisied as bipolar type ii which has major depression so coffee keeps me up! Instead of down.

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

i have been so frustrated working with a psychologist to get a med regime that works for me. Ugh! Thanks for the warning on the z med. Does anyone have any success with mood stabilizers? For what it is worth...I have been on lexapro for the last 6 weeks and depression is not as deep for me. But as always let's wait and see what will be...(taken off effexor and lithum and put on estrogen patch and lexapro)
