Q: Breastfeed Or Formula

I have been asked whether I was going to breastfeed or formula or both. I was planning on just breastfeeding, but alternating sounds good too. I was wondering what is everyone else doing?

Breastfeeding is best because the baby gets sick less often and it helps you lose weight faster and it has the best nutrients for baby. My plan is to breastfeed til the baby is like 4-6 months and can have cereal and stuff like that, then I will use formula. Its good if you breastfeed in the beginning and then use formula later on!

Thats cool. I was also thinking that the baby might be getting too much if I breastfed and gave formula, and I didnt want him to be overweight. Thanks

For the most part, I will be breastfeeding, but plan to have formula around so jeff can feed the baby some times too! And when I am out he can feed, or someone else (if we leave the baby with family or something), but like I said, for the most part breastfeeding.

Theres much controversy... I am avid breastfeeding supporter.. As long as you do not smoke and drink often, I highly suggest giving breastfeeding a go.. It is very healthy for baby and easier on thier tiny tummys.

However... Don't feel like a failure should you choose to bottle feed... Or should you be unable to nurse. Some mind it very difficult to nurse.. Its not a piece of cake for everyone... It wasn't for me and I wouldn't say it will be for you.. However I really look up to young women who chose to nurse... Its a big step!

I nursed both my children.. I nursed my son for 11 months and my daughter for 9. Smile if you have any questions about it please let me know.. I will be happy to answer them for you

Im plannin to breastfeed but after about 3 weeks I hope to switch back and forth between breastmilk and formula (i am buying a pump tho to try and give as much breast milk as I can) but I heard sometimes the baby wont take both?? Im hoping to alternate but can u really switch back and forth??? I hope so!

Shauna, you can switch back and forth... I wouldn't reccomend it to much... Might upset the babies tummy... Depends on the babies... Sometimes with formula babies can get constipated (sp?). Breastfed babies have an easier time with pooping.. Thier bms are almost like brown urine and they have a sweet smell to them, in the begining anyways Smile

i would reccomend nursing at least until 6 weeks, thats when the baby get the most nutrients and what not from nursing, than if you wish.. Start switching back and forth at that point.. But unless you really need to I would just stick to nursing. It's healthier.

I will say though.. Nursing might hurt alittle in the begining.. But don't give up! Your nipples will have to toughen up alittle in the begining... And for about 2 weeks they may be really sore... If they are unbareable I would consult your lactation consultant at the hospital you deliver in b/c baby may not be latched on correctly or may have thrush or so on so forth.

I wish you the best of luck feel free to ask me any questions you may have!

I was only planning to breastfeed for the first month but I am still breastfeedind now,i have been doing it for nearky 7 weeks and I really enjoy it!!Its a good way of bonding with our baby!!Also it is a lot easier than bottle feeding, theres no prep needed at all, you just wip it out and away you go!!The only off putting thing is feeding in public, in the uk people tend to be a bit weird about it and you tend to get funny looks!!But who cares as long as you and your baby are happy!!! :d :d

Your boss if he/she wont support you doing best for your baby. I would just say screw you, my baby is more important! Im definetly going to breastfeed, im using them vent-aire bottles by playtex, and im going to get a pump and storage bags and all them goodies so for when im gone, or when kevin wants to feed her. I dont want to give her formula, but if I have to, I guess I will just deal with it.

I have been breastfeeding for 3 1/2 months and I love it, but I intend to switch him to just formula soon and I am finding it difficult. I mean he does just fine with bottle, but he has become very attatched to my nipple ad when its time to go down for the night, he screams until I give it to him. He won't take a bottle or pacifier, it has to be the nipple. So I don't knoiw what to do!!! Lol.....But overall I love breast feeding nd highly reccomend it!!!
