Im getting my wisdom teeth taken out in a few days. I'm getting the iv sedation and thats really the only thing i'm worried about.

A few questions-

1. Where does the "iv sedation needle" go into? Like does it go into your arm, hand, wrist etc... Which way is the best??
2. Does the "iv sedation needle" hurt before your knocked out?

Don't worry about getting your wisdom teeth out. I know all of your friends and family are probably telling you horror stories of things they have heard about the surgery. I had mine out 5yrs ago- spring break of my senior year of high school (bummer) I am dental hygienist and in our office we do iv sedation. The "needle" goes into your forearm -kinda like you are getting blood drawn. There may be a little pinch when it goes in, some offices will spray like a topical gel to numb the area on your arm first, but even if they don't, it's ok. I had it done with out the numbing gel on the arm. I was soooo worried about it too, and it was nothing. It's a weird feeling, you just go to sleep and wake up like 45-1hour later or so and you have gauze in your mouth and all you want to do is sleep! Good luck to you- let us know how it goes! Just think- icecream- milkshake, jell-o diet coming your way! Good luck! Any more questions, feel free to ask! Laughing

Extremely eHealthy
I.v. Sedation
Sometimes a little nitrous oxide is administered before the i.V. Is started. If so, you won't care what is going on.You'll wake up and have no idea that the procedure has even started.I.V. Sedation is a beautiful thing!!One of the drugs that is used creates an amnesiac effect and you won't remember a thing. The doctor can talk to you and you can respond, but you won't recall anything.I used to work in oral sugery and i.V. Sedation is very safe and predictable in the right hands.Best of luck to you and feel free to contact me !
