Q: Sweating Too Much And Red Face
asked by: ripleym on July 6th, 2004

Hi,

i go the gym regularly and do about 5km run and 2km cycle, with sit-ups in-between, and then go on the x-trainer before lifting some weights. By the time I get round to lifting weights, I am drenched in sweat and my face is bright red.

Now I know I might not be the fittest guy around, but the amount I work out suggests that I should be fitter than this.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Embarassed

I also have this problem. I dont think there is anything you can do and I think it just depends on the person. Try to keep yourself cool is all I can say.

Keeping cool in manchester is hardly a problem unless of course you are wearing too many clothes?? Which would cause you to sweat & go red in the face. As would doing all this either too fast or not regularly enough. I recall having someone say they worked out regularly - it turned out to be monthly!! - so are you wearing too many clothes & so overheating? Are you ruching through your routine too fast & are you doing it really regularly?

Also have you beed checked out by a dr? Just in case & have you considered whether you are eating a good healthy diet>??

Noo, I don't think there's anything wrong with you at all...I wrok out all the time, and I always always break out in a sweat- and it's good, it shows that your actually making your body work at something! Just keep water by you, and pace yourself, you'll be fine...Also, look around at other people who work out chances are they are just as drenched or close to it as you are....If your getting light headed/clammy, now that's a problemand you should go to your dr-but from the sounds of it you should be fine

Could just have high blood pressure. That could be causing the redness and such.

i dont think that is the case. I have very low blood pressure and still get a red face. I think it just depends on the skin color and type o skin.

You know what? Grow up! You don't agree with anything anyone says because you didn't say it. Read! You even quoted it and then misread. Lol. "could have high blood pressure"
i didn't say that anyone who's face turns read for any reason whatsoever has high blood pressure! I said in his case it could be that he had high blood pressure, because I have seen similar cases.
I didn't ask about your blood pressure or if you turn red or not. And you are not allowed to curse on this site!

God, it wasnt supposed to mean. I was just stating that high blood pressure would be unlikley the culprit. Good for you to think of it, but I am just saying what I experinced. Im sorry if you took it personally again.

I wondered why it said that in my post, cause I didnt type it

Well, I was not saying that you were being mean. I was just saying what I know from experience and it really upsets me that you have to disagree with everything anyone says. No, maybe it isn't high blood pressure, but maybe it is! I was just throwing ideas out there.

Good for you to think of an idea. Really, it may be high blood pressure in this case. No one really knows. I was just stating that its unlikley it could be from my experince. Who knows though for him.

Ummm yeh...Both of you should re read what you just wrote for the past however many posts- the whole point of this is to say what we *think it might be* we can't diagnose him- we're not drs, we can only go by experience- could be highbloodpressure, but he would possibly have alot of other symptoms along with that for high blood pressure, low blood pressure, I have that too, and I get red in the face- it could be from just being out of shape and breaking a sweat, ya know who knows?? No need to fight about differentiating point of views

I Have the Same Problem...
Hi. I'm a new user here and this topic is why I joined. I am so frustrated by this. Every time I run, my face turns bright red and splotchy looking. I run very regularly (3-4 times a week for two miles), my blood pressure is fine, and I am otherwise perfectly healthy and in good shape. When I run my breathing is always under control and I am never gasping for air or anything like that. I am a self-conscious female already, and it doesn't help that I look like a freak at the gym whenever I step off the treadmill and people are asking me if I am okay. I thought that it might be a reaction to the sweat on my face, so I tried keeping it wiped off as I ran, but it didn't help. Does anyone know what causes this or how to make it stop??

Thanks a lot.
Lisa

I Know How You Feel!
Me too! I also work out regularly and suffer from a very red face in my gym classes and have had the experience of people asking if I am OK! My blood pressure is normal. My instructor told me that there is nothing you can do about it - it just means that your body has a good cooling sysyem as the blood comes to the surface easily. MAde me feel a bit better but I would prefer to be a normal colour as most other people seem to!

Why worry about it?? You are working out, and working out hard it seems. I get red faced as well. I never gave it a second thought. It is a sign of a good work out. Enjoy it.

I, too, have this plm and i hate it but as stated by someone earlier i think it's just a good cooling system. It may be just a translucency thing - more or less pigment. I have fair skin and blond hair, so maybe less pigment here? I don't know, like everyone else i'm guessing. I was thinking of using a self tanner to attempt to 'hide' it. What do ya'll think? (yes i'm from the south)
