Hi I am new to this forum scene.
Basically I was on elavil (amripitne) *i cant spell it* for about 6 months.
I finally went down a dose and got really ill with my stomach! Over 2 months later and im still having stomach problems and various other issues. This is getting me down big style.

Anyone here experienced withdrawal effects when coming off anti depressants?

Im certain im having withdrawal effects cos ive had loads of tests with normal results and it cant just be a coincidence that I fell ill when coming off my pills.

I feel lost cos every1 keeps saying its all in my head which it partly is but the pain definatly isnt in my head.

Help Crying or Very sad

I would not even think of reducing meds without learning cbt or some other coping skills first.

What does cbt mean?

I really didnt know what I was letting myself in for.
I went down a dose to slowly taper off the pills but I got really ill! I was crying in pain for 2 days! Felt like my stomach was going to expolde.

So I stopped takig the pills there and then, so I tapered off them for 2 days then stopped altogether Sad

i wish I never started taking these pills in the first place, theres much better ways of dealing with problems than with pills.

You Withdrawal Symptoms
Robb - you should have never made the decision on your own to wien yourself and go off your meds totally! What's done is done and now you need to take car of yourself.

Cbt stands for (i think this first word is correct)
cognitive behavioral therapy.

Look it up on line. I believe such therapy teaches you different ways on coping other than just regular therpay.. Check it out.

I have not tried it yet.. But may even look into it myself.

Be aware that since you have gone off your meds completely, you may experience being more depressed than before.. Sometimes.. Or just be back where you were.. You need to get into some type of talk therapy to get through it.

Don't be scared. We here are all experiencing this.. One way or another..

Cbt is cognitive behavioral therapy. It teaches you exercises to counter
your thoughts and help you think more realistically and this reduces your
anxiety because your thoughts are at the heart of what makes you depressed
in the first place. I had several overlapping anxiety problems, but have now
come to believe the root of the problem was my inaccurate thoughts and
distorted thoughts. The two books we used in my group were been there, done
that? Do this! By sam obitz and mastery of your anxiety and panic-third
edition by michelle craske and david barlow.
