I am 18 years old and in a very solid relationship, me and my boyfriend started having sex about ayear ago and we decided I should go on the pill. I went to a local sexual health clinic and the doctor there prescribed me a combined oral contraceptive ovysmen. At the time I was unaware that my grandmother has dvt and my mother is also a carrier but doesn't have it. I didn't start taking the tablets as they cleary state not to if any family member has had or has vte. I have tried to research vte and dvt and I have just managed to confuse myself further. Am I safe to carry on taking them because my mother is only a carrier? (i am not, a blood test confirmed this)
i would like to discuss this with my doctor but he is a family friend and it would be awkward, and - im sure my mother would be informed of it.
Somebody please help me!

I'm, of course, not a doctor so don't take my word as anywhere near being sure but if you're not a carrier of it then don't you not have to worry about it? If it's inherited and you didn't inherit it then how could you get it now?

Maybe you should call the clinic that perscribed the pills to you and ask them. It's the safest thing.

My advice for you is to ask the Dr. Who gave them to you, you should always let them know about your family medical history so you won't mess yourself up in the long run.
Sincerely,
