Q: Perforated Ear Drum And Flying
asked by: miyachan on July 5th, 2004

I have recently been offered a job as flight attendent with an airline, however, after having a medical it could be that my perforated ear drum will cost me my job. Is it still safe to fly frequently with this? Also, I have had this for twenty years with no trouble at all. Any help much appreciated!

Perforated ear drum
I perforated my ear drum about a week and a half ago, I had a death in the family and need to fly. Would like to know if it is safe to fly. I will see my ear nose and throat doctor on monday, but need to leave right away.

it should be fine.. i had a perforated eardrum (due to tubes in my ear when younger , I am currently a pilot in an unpressurised plane , and i've passed all my medical with no prob. Actually with a perferated eardrum , changes in altitude are not very noticble due to the hole in the ar drum which allows the air to move in and out with out causing a POPPING sensation
