Q: My Jaw Pops/cracks When I Open/close My Mouth...

For the past 4 years or better every time I open or close my mouth my jaw cracks/pops..It even does it when I move my bottom jaw left or right..And some times its really really loud,my friends can hear it..And sometimes it gets so sore that I cant open it at all and if I do it hurts and makes really funny noises (almost like a pulling or streaching kinda sound..Its like right next to my ear). I have told my parents about it but they really didn't say much of anything...It was more less ok ur point is..

Has anyone else had this..Is it normal...What could be wrong...Any ideas...

It sounds like temporal mandibular joint(tmj) the joint just kind of wears out, a lot of people have this problem, I am no Dr. But this is what it sounds like to me, their is a lot of information on the internet about it.
Sincerely,
sandy

I am a 22 year old female and I have had the same thing for 5 years. My jaw pops every time I open or close my mouth, or move it in any way. It happened suddenly, just one morning I woke up and there it was. I have never had any pain associated with it and it's only on my left side. I can feel something moving when it pops, like a tendon or something. It is really bad in the morning, and I've almost had enough of it. My mom has TMJ, but her jaw hurts when it pops and always has. I've never had a single twinge of pain from it. Is this TMJ or something else?

TXT, yes, that is definitely TMJ disorder. There is usually no pain associated with a clicking when it first starts. But if it persists -- and it will unless you do something about it -- then it can become painful. At that point, a fair amount of damage has probably been done. Do everything you can now to avoid going down that path. Search online for a dental splint, but definitely avoid the soft ones, which just make the nighttime clenching even worse.

omg!! i thought that i was like a weirdo or something but the exact same thing is happening to me. Its mainly on my right side of my jaw and its has only been going on for ab a few weeks now. Wow, i feel normal again by reading everyone's stories. Id have to look up this"TMJ". I hope it doesnt have anything to do with having braces before. You think? But thanks everyone for your stories and i hope we all find something to ease this discomfort xoxo

Jaw broken and reset?? What? No actually you need to do jaw exercises and rest the jaw for a few months by eating soft foods, and if all else fails...time for costly treatment. As in splints (orthotics) and orthodontics to finish the job. After seeing 8 so called TMJ specialists ranging from dentists to chiropractors I found someone good. YOu will need to see a "neuromuscular" dentist. I am about to fork over $12,000 for full treatment. Lucky me. I can think of tons of things I can spend that on like trading in my car plus the $12,000 for a new Mustang...oh well...

I have experienced everything, well almost everything when it comes to TMJ. On Oct 22nd I will have the first of two surgeries to have bi-lateral total joint replacements. If I was to recommend anything or anyone it would be to go to a Myofacial Pain doctor and a TMJ specialist. Many individuals when they have TMJ problems think it is just the joint when in fact there are muscles and other things that are a part of the problem. Right now with medical costs being what they are we feel that we are limited in finding the right doctor. Over the last 8 years we have had to spend over $40k out of pocket (because insurance won't pay for it)to go through all of the procedures that we hoped would correct my problems. I had a wonderful and understanding doctor but the surgeries didn't fix my problem. I am hoping that these total joint replacements will do the trick.
