Q: Fever And Swelling After Surgery

My dad had arthroscopic knee surgery monday. With pain killers he has been doing great but about 54 hours after the surgery he has developed a fever , the joint is hot and swollen, he has chills and is in a lot more pain.

We talked to his doctor who said that it wasn't normal but it was likely blood in the joint and to bring him in to the office first thing in the morning (and not to take him to the er tonight).

Has anyone heard of these symptoms?

(blood in the joint is called hemarthrosis. I found some info on it at http://www.Chclibrary.Org/micromed/0003859 0.Html)

Extremely eHealthy
Get hold of the Dr. A.S.A.P. Or take him to e.R., he might have a post-op infection and it could turn into staff infection, I know, I have been there! On his release papers they gave him after the surgery their should be the name and phone # of who to contact if this happens. Keep us posted! This could be something that you should not mess around with!
Sincerely,
sandy
