Q: How Do You Cope?

I was reading through some past posts and got to thinking about how people cope with the hell of anxiety... I don't mean what you do like meditation, medication, etc.. But I mean what gives you the strength to get through each day?

For me it is the hope that some day I will wake up and this will all be in my past, that I will be able to lead a normal life and that I will be able to experience everything life has to offer. I feel that every day I get out of bed and put one foot in front of the other, is another day that I am closer to being anxiety free.

I would love to hear from other people about what gives them the strength to cope.

Keep smiling Smile

How I Cope
Ellie, you said you would like to know how other people cope with anxiety. For me, its jesus. The word says that the joy of the lord is our strength. When I am running low on joy, it tend to start experiencing a little anxiety. How do you get joy? Well getting into the word or listening to the word will stir up your confidence when you read about how much god loves us and how he protects us. Or being a blessing to other people will usually stir up alot of joy. Praying, talking, and having a personal relationship with god will keep you at peace. If you ever need to talk I am here to listen and to help.

God bless you

It was the hope that someday I would be able to feel better and begin enjoying life more. Thankfully I found something that worked for me and now I try and share it with others and encourage them :d

Thanks everyone for your replies.
Unfortunately rayjay I have found that since suffering from anxiety I have struggled with my faith... I used to have a strong sense of faith but now I seem to have, not lost it exactly, but lost the sense of comfort I once got from it, it's hard to describe....

Anyway, thanks again everyone for your positivity Smile

Faith really gets tested when you have anxiety and panic. What saved my life was getting involved in cbt and learning the exercises like the tea form that taught me skills to cope with and eliminate my stress. The two books we used in my group are really good and I would recommend them both highly: been there, done that? Do this! By sam obitz for anxiety and depression and mastery of your anxiety and panic-third edition by michelle craske and david barlow for panic disorder. Cbt teaches you exercises on how to counter distorted thoughts and once you get good at using the tools you start to feel better and better Smile

Extremely eHealthy
What gets me through is

1. My kids.

2. My faith (i just look at the sky, plants or animals etc to renew my faith)

3. Trying to help others - when you do - it makes you feel good about yourself & therefore that maybe you are worthwhile after all - it also says that your problems & pain have given you greater understanding & hence hopefully a greater ability to help others.

Coping
I drink lots of water
distract myself
breathing exersises
weightlifting
play with my kids or get away from them (lol)

i just basically do anything it takes to get my mind off of my symptoms. The worst time is in bed at night if I have trouble sleeping it just gets so hard to relax.
