I have had one episode of acute cholecystitis resluting in admission to hospital (morphine, antiemetics) then antibiotics for two weeks. Ultrasound showed lots of small stones in gallbladder. This was 9 months ago. Since then, no further problems at all - fit and well. I am due to have a cholecystectomy very soon. My question is, do I reallly need one? In view of the fact that I am completely symptomless and as there can be (albeit uncommon) complications fromm the surgery should I just go ahead with this based on one single episode of acute cholecystistis? Also I have read that some people have a lot of symptoms post operatively, pain, diarrheas etc. What to do................
