Hi,

i'm trying to research the side effects of dilantin for a friend. He recently went to the doctor with complaints of major side effects of the drug. The doctor told him it was all in his head and he should seek a psychiatrist. His side effects are, headaches, dizziness, nausea, forgetfulness...........

I think he started taking dilantin in february. From my limited research I see that those above side effects are common in dilantin. My questions are:

1) how do you all feel about what this doctor said to him?

2) is there any other medication out there that could help him feel like a normal person again?

I feel so bad for him. He's miserable. He's only 29 and shouldn't have to live life this way. Please help in any way you can.

Many thanks,

jackie

He Needs Another Doctor!
Your friend should not go back to that doctor!! That's terrible. He needs someone who cares enough to listen to him.

I recommend that he see an epileptologist. If he's also from long island (i noticed you are) and can't find a good one there, it's probably worth a drive (or ride on the lirr) to manhattan. I think there are a few large epilepsy centers there.

All meds have possible side effects, but perhaps a better doctor could help find one that suits him better. Your friend is very lucky that he has someone who cares so much. My best to you both.

Partial Complex Seizures? Anyone
Dear everyone.

Need a question answered...
Do any of you have like a scared, fear feelings before seizures I get this feeling. Sometimes it lasts all night. Colours in the dark, from my right eye, pain in my right temple that goes accross to my right eye.

During grand mal seizures I panic.. Does anyone else do this. I think that I can hear.?
My neurologist says that I cant hear and that I cant see, he says that during the seizure I am replaying over and over in my head what I last saw.

Just wondering if anyone else has similar experiances

I would find another doctor. Dilantin does have a lot of un wanted side effects like many others. I personally would seek another doctor. Dilantin can also change levels in blood and can be very serious. Some have to go through many of drugs to get the one that is right for them. I would really have to ? A doctor and his skills when he or she makes a statement like that one.
