I was to take bc for the soul purpose of protection during sex. I do not want to take it for several months however. If I were to take it two weeks prior to sex and finish off the pack for the month, would it still be effective (during the month I took it)? Is it healthy to take it for only one month?

You plan your sexual escapades weeks in advance? And no that wouldn't work... Your hormones would be so confused, they wouldn't know what the heck was going on. It'd be easier using a condom if you don't want to go long term on bc.

Yes, cherry pie is right. Birth control is a long term way to protect against pregnancy. If you just take it when you feel like it your body will definately pay for it.
If you don't want to remember to take a pill everday, then maybe try the patch or depo.
But, if you just want a short term fix, then use condoms. You should use them to protect against std's anyway.
