Q: Panic Attacks

Hi! I suffer from panic attacks and anxiety. I get really scared and afraid that I am dying. I get this intense feeling lately out of the blue like my body starts to tingle inside and I am going to pass out. I have had blood work done and everything seems normal. I was hoping someone else has had these same symptoms and can give me some hope. I currently am on celexa and take klonopin as needed. I would really like to get off of these and get my life back for my twin daughters and husband. Any suggestions and help would be appreciated!

Thanks! Confused

My first thought was how old are your twin daughters? This may be to do with being a new (newish mum) - in some cases of anxiety you can work your life around it, like if your anxiety is caused by high mountains - keep away from them but if its more general then I would suggest:

1) talk to me about your daughters age & activities & when the anxiety attacks occur.

2) try 5htp (tryptophan 50-100 mg at night) you can google this & get a full explanation of why I suggest this.

3) sam-e may also help as may dhea (12.5 mg am) also valerian, vitamin b's &

4) meditation &/or relaxation but these you need to learn & practise before they can do any good. Also the natural /vitamin & drug therapies above will take 2-6 weeks to get working.

Hi jma69-
the answer for me was cognitive behavioral therapy (cbt). I was on meds for many years before I found cbt and it cured me and got me off meds in a remarkably short period of time. Best of all once you learn the tools in cbt you have them forever so you are able to give yourself relief almost instantly whenever you are feeling stressed, anxious or down. It's all about using the tools to learn to think more clearly and accurately about things and once you do your anxiety, panic and depression will miraculously begin to lift before your eyes. My favorite starter book on cbt is "been there, done that? Do this! By sam obitz like anything in life the more you put in the more you get out of cbt. Many universities offer cbt programs for little or no charge :d

Try reading some books on cbt and start using the tools like the tea form they teach you and I think this will help you a lot! I suffered panic disorder as well as depression but through the tools taught in cbt I have been feeling better than ever and I am panic and depression free now Smile the two books we used in my group are really good and I would recommend them both highly: been there, done that? Do this! By sam obitz or anxiety and depression and mastery of your anxiety and panic-third edition by michelle craske and david barlow for panic disorder. I hope this is useful to you.

Nick Gallos??
Hello, I just read his post. Ignore him he doesn't know what he's talking about. I think he forgot to take his medications. I also have panic attacks. It runs in my family. I have the same feeling that you have that i'm dying when the panic attack comes on. I have had every test possible done on my heart because my chest hurts so bad when the panic attacks come on. I've tried everything to help my panic attacks. But nothing has helped. I take 50mg of zoloft a day. I used to let them control me. I wouldn't leave my house or do anything that I once loved doing. Finally I had enough and when they come on I tell my self that i'm fine and it will be over soon.

Also, my panic attacks happen at any time. I can be having the time of my life and all of the sudden one strikes. I have heard that some people say stay away from what you fear. Its not as simple as that because mine are not caused by something I fear, they come out of the blue for no reason.

If you find something that helps let me know i'm willing to try anything to get rid of these.

Bridget
