Q: Birth Cert. And Last Names

Okay where I live (loiuisiana) as far as I know if a woman has a child and is not married the child has to have the mothers last name put on the birth cert. Unless the father signs a notarized statement. Does anyone else have to do this? I think that it is dumb. I mean if my df is in the room and he wants to sign it why couldn't he? So basically this means that if I have my baby at 2 in the morning my df will have to go out find a notary and sign a statement. This is really pissing me off. I mean I could see if he wasn't there or said that the child wasn't his. Than we would have to go through some sh*t to get it done, but if he is there and wants to sign he can't, what. I just had to vent a little Evil or Very Mad

Can't you have your man sign the paper ahead of time? Just asking because I seriously do not know. That is strange though, I have never heard of that kind of law.

I thought about that too ,but from what the law says he has to sign after the baby is born. Louisiana is so stupid.

That sucks. Right after you have your baby I am sure you really want to worry about finding a notary. Sorry.

Thanks. I think i'll call a notary or a lawyer when I get home to see if there is anyway around it. I mean we could just get married early ,but I want our anniversary to stay the same ,so that's a no.

I live in la too, but the hospital gave us a paper to fill out ahead of time instead of worrying about it when we get to the hospital to deliver. But I do know that if the babys father is not your husband that the father has to be at the hospital to sign the papers, you cannot put his name on the birth certificate unless he is present. That is kinda stupid.

My ex-boyfriend had a baby with his girlfriend. They, of course, wern't married. But the baby is under his name and he is on the birth certificate. He was at the hospital too when tamara was born. And I live in louisiana.

Here the baby can have any last name..... Mothers fathers even grandmothers maiden name..... Married or un married.....
The only thing is that where the fathers details are put the father must sign..... But even if he refuses to sign the birth certificate the mother can still call her baby by the fathers last name, just the fathers details would be left blank........
Hell you can even make up a last name for the baby...... But who would want to....
