In some cases you just end up with a bad (or not bad, but a kid with issues) kid, but in most cases it is up to you. I mean, if you let your kid scream all of the time for no reason and never do anything about it then they are going to keep doing it. But, if you teach them that screaming will not get them everything then they will learn. Of course, newborns are definately an exception, but you know what I mean.
When it is your child it will be different. Plus, they will know their limits with you. If you don't let them get away with being bad, then they most likely will not push you.
When my siblings and I were children we knew what we were and were not allowed to do. My mother says that we never acted up in the stores or restaurants etc. We knew better. It drives me insane to see people in public who just let their kids run wild, touch everything, scream etc.
I have even watched people who when we were out to eat just kept talking to their company while their child screamed. Like they didn't even hear him! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
