Heres what I did to get rid of anxiety attacks. Im a male 26

1. The most important thing to do is change the way you think when the attack occurs. It is extremely difficult to do and it takes time and practice especially if u had pain like I had. I could swear to god it was a physical problem that I had. It is but at the same time it also is mental. Its like a cycle. When it happens I found that you shouldnt fight it. You have to make an effort to tell yourself that nothing bad will happen and try to block out all thoughts good or bad that enter your thoughts. I found what worked for me was I kept repeating the phrase, god will protect me and ill be okay. Sounds kind of silly but I tried other ones and this is the only one that worked.

2. No matter what when you start to think of something that could relate in any way shape or form to something emotional or stressful...End that thought process. If you have something you cant avoid thinking about just say so what, who cares, it doesn t matter ill worry about it when im healthy. If you start to wonder whats wrong with you you have to stop doing that or you will feed the cycle and it wont help you. I just told myself if im going to have a stroke then I dont care then I have a stroke. Itd be better than living with this health questions feeling forever. Ya im ornary as hell but it helped.

3. After a attack no matter how big or small tell yourself you did a good job handling it. You made it alright wooo whooo. After you start getting better try to think of ways how you can handle the next attack better to try to shorten it. Set up small tests for yourself to measure your progress. If watching a emotional movie makes you feel like having an attack then test yourself with it but be smart about it too.

4. Try to think positive about whats happening to you at all times. And try to get to the point where you dont focus on your breathing if you have problems breathing. This is extremely hard especially if u have pain breathing. But over time the pain will become less if you do this. In fact the hardest thing for me was to forget about checking my breathing. I look back on it and I hadnt really realized how often I did it.

5. If the pain is real bad all you can really do is lay down and meditate. Cold ice on your body can take inflamation down if you have it and it also does something chemically to you that helps stop attacks. Ice the back of your neck even if no pain occurs there. There something about cold air or cold ice that makes your muscles relax I read about it on google.

6. Advil and motrin can stop the adrenline attacks from occuring. They have some sort of adrenline blocking capability. It worked for me but when I did my research I found some people can have these cause attacks.

7. Drink so much cold water that you practically float. When you start feeling better dont stop with all the cold water. It has to be cold, for some reason warm water didnt work as well.

8. If you sleep on your side, take a pillow and prop it up against your chest and lay into it for relief. This can also give some relief if you have a minor or major chest pain or breathing problems.

9. Make sure you get quality sleep its really important. I found that during my sleep in the middle of the night my chest would spasm so fast that it felt like it purred. It was scary as hell.

At first I did these things and was like pff it doesnt work. But I kept at it and found that over a course of 2-3 weeks I started getting less severe attacks pain wise and the duration of the attack lessoned.
I was very lucky that I only had a 2 month stretch with severe pains and breathing. It took about another 2 months for me to go back to normal and I didnt take any medication. I feel for the people who have to spend a lifetime with this. I cant even begin to grasp how you people handle it. Hopefully this wont be a reoccuring event for me I guess ill find out=).

Please if anyone would like to add to this list please do so for other people. I found that in the research I did that no one talks about the signs of recovery like the pain lessoning or just one day poof its gone. It made me wonder if people who got well just decided to forget about others after there problem was gone.
