Q: Can Pancreas Disorder Be Misdiagnosed?

Hi,

i've suffered for years from upper abdominal and upper back pain (since an auto accident in 1983) specifically to my right side. Ive had a ct scan 5/04, and was told that my liver and kidney both has a cyst. But my doctor did not seem alarmed.

The pain is still there, because I present with multiple symtons, rectal bleeding and severe annemia taking up most of the attention, the pain in my side has been attributed to irritable bowel sydom.

I'm not convinced since my episodic pain makes it hard for me to sit in a chair and even on the sofa for extened periods of time, I keep thinking that maybe i'm just sitting wrong, but when I focus and try to locate the pain, it always seems to generate from the abdomen, towards my back.

I'm scheduled to see another doctor within the new two weeks, and want to help limit the field of possible ailments to quickly find a diagnosis. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello mary ann,

sorry I did not answer your post sooner, but I just today found this forum. I am hoping you have gotten some answers by now from your doctors. Trauma, such as an auto accident, can cause an acute pancreatitis attack. I have heard more than once that the pancreas is the most unforgiving organ and a mere will bruise, with little or not healing properties. And yes pancreatitis is one of the most misdiagnosed diseases there is. I read that with alcohol being the cause, it takes an aerage of 48 months to receive a correct diagnosis. When alcohol is not the cause, it is 81 months - 4 & 7 years respectively. If you do not get the answers you need, please do not give up. Many of the people I know with pancreatitis will end up taveling out of state to find a doctor that can recgnize it and accurately diagnose it.
