My mother is now 78 and 2 yrs ago after a mammography and further tests detected dcis and undergoing two resections, but without obtaining clean margins, had a mastectomy. Lymph nodes were clean..
Underwent radiation treatment, no chemo and has been on arimidex.
Oncologist does blood work every 6 months and her ca27.29 has been constant at 35.
But, now the latest blood work elevated to 44.
No other symptoms or problems.
Her oncologist wants to wait 3 months for another test.
Is this reasonable or should a follow up test be done sooner ?
What additional test / scans should be done and how soon?
Thank you for your assistance.

Does a CA27-29 count of 55 mean a recurrence of cancer?
